The University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine, Department of Emergency Medicine is dedicated to improving the outcomes of acutely ill and injured people through high quality care, education and research. The incumbent will support the data acquisition and analysis operations of a Data Science Laboratory in the Department of Emergency Medicine specializing in prehospital medical care and monitoring.
Performs research, analysis, and modeling on organizational data and data sets utilizing advanced statistical methods to mine and analyze complex and unstructured data sets. Offers complex analysis and utilizes advanced algorithms and statistical software. Adheres to all protocols.
Essential Functions
The job requires extensive experience working with data of varying modalities and structures, including biosignals, serial time series, unstructured text, binary encoded files, XML/JSON, machine logs, and vehicle telemetry for scientific or R&D purposes.
A working understanding of TCP/IP, Bluetooth, WIFI and other communication protocols is necessary in order to facilitate data collection systems operation and maintenance. Flexibility in developing a working understanding in uncommon programming languages specific to hardware systems is required.
Experience managing large datasets that accumulate in real-time, including video and telemetry data feeds is required.
Fluency in engineering and scientific Python libraries is essential. The incumbent will also provide analytic assistance to faculty and senior data scientists, providing summary reports, regression analysis, application of publicly available signal processing methods, and executing machine learning training processes. Familiarity with R for statistical analysis is preferred, but Python or STATA are also acceptable.
Engineering background preferred but not required.
Physical Effort
The position requires the capability for occasional/infrequent regional travel (up to 200 miles) to troubleshoot remote data collection instruments. Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, walk to inspect data collection equipment and carry 15- 20 lbs.
