We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to support the health and well-being of students in a dynamic school-based setting. In this role, you will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or physician, while partnering with school staff, families, and healthcare professionals to ensure safe, effective, and student-centered care.
Responsibilities:
- Following and enforcing school policies and procedures affecting the health, safety and well-being of employees and students in the school health setting.
- Performs specialized medical procedures for students after receiving child specific training and delegation by registered nurse, including, but not limited to, clean catheterization, enteral tube feeding/medication, seizure care. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards and as directed by the physician.
- Perform routine diagnostic tests, medical treatments and procedures such as taking and recording temperatures, pulse, respiration and blood pressure; changing sterile dressings, giving irrigations ; EKGs, and diabetic management.
- Assists with the preparation of equipment and aids in the treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
- Observes, records, and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatment to physicians/nurse practitioners, School Health Supervisor, School Administrators and parent, as needed.
- Instructs patients on sample collection and testing.
- Arranges for patients testing and information.
- Orders, prepares, and inspects patients’ charts. Posts tests and examination results.
- Adheres to Clinical/Nursing Department policies and procedures.
- Complies with Infection Control and OSHA Regulations (handling and disposal of biomedical waste) for the center as per regulations.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
- Monitors patient medication, supplies and equipment; notifies parent of the need to restock medication, supplies and equipment.
- Maintains patient charts and documentation per School Health program requirements.
- Administer first aid as needed.
- Perform CPR/AED as needed.
- Performing other related duties as assigned, including but not limited to, those duties performed by a School Health Technician and Telehealth LPN
- LPN Program: Completion of a state-approved practical nursing program, typically lasting about one year, which includes both classroom instruction and clinical practice.
- Licensing: Successful completion of the NCLEX-PN (National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses) to obtain LPN licensure in Florida.
- Clinical Experience: Practical experience gained during the LPN training program, which typically includes clinical rotations in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, nursing homes, or clinics.
- Experience in Healthcare: Previous experience working in healthcare or a clinical setting is often preferred but not always required for entry-level positions. This can include internships, externships, or volunteer work.
