About This Position
Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) is one of the largest privately held architecture and engineering firms in the Southeast.
GMC has a great opportunity for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Technical candidate to perform consistent, independent work on departmental projects and for assessing, managing, and resolving highly complex issues within the Architecture department in our Montgomery, AL office. The ideal candidate will have a broad range of knowledge and skills, enabling the individual to effectively support—and at times assist in managing—medium to large-scale projects with minimal oversight, while also contributing to the development and mentorship of peers.
Essential functions and responsibilities include:
Technical (70%)
- Utilizes computer-aided design (CAD) software, along with established techniques, standards, and tools, to produce technical drawings for departmental projects of all scales; provides leadership and guidance to projects and junior staff throughout project timelines with minimal oversight.
- Possesses expert-level knowledge and technical expertise in drafting and design, drawing and consultant coordination, construction administration, and specification development.
- Applies advanced knowledge and skills to technical work with minimal supervision.
- Proactively identifies current or potential technical issues and implements effective solutions or preventive measures.
- Assists with—and, when appropriate, leads—the development of client presentations and other non-technical departmental initiatives.
Collaboration (30%)
- Collaborates closely with project managers and leadership on departmental projects and mentoring of junior technical staff.
- Works effectively with staff across disciplines to efficiently identify and resolve project issues and challenges.
- Collaborates with design originators to resolve discrepancies between original drawings and final CAD designs.
- Collaborates with team members to expand industry knowledge and professional expertise.
- Communicates effectively with team members regarding project planning, meetings, schedules, and deadlines.
- Actively seeks learning opportunities from both peers and leaders to enhance technical knowledge and skills
- Proactively identifies on-the-job learning opportunities for peers without requiring direct guidance from leadership.
Minimum qualifications:
- 15 + years of experience
- Ability to apply technical knowledge with little or no direction
- 2-year community college certification or Bachelor’s degree preferred
- Advanced knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent communication skills
- Organized and detail oriented

- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Movements such as bending, twisting, crouching, etc.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times
