About This Position

The Grant Accountant supports AFG’s mission and performs the accounting and finance functions for AFG programs funded by grants or special revenue.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain complex tracking systems to manage diverse grant programs. Reconcile grant financial records and prepare month-end reports for finance and grantors.

• Set-up new grants, manage and closeout existing grants, and verify grant expenditures and budget overruns. Maintain all grant report information in the accounting system.

• Compile, track and review all monthly grant expenditures for compliance with grant contracts; and produce monthly report summaries.

• Work with program staff to manage the process of requesting, receiving, and paying-out grant funds, while maintaining compliance with grant agreements and contracts.

• Prepare and audit invoices in compliance with grant agreements, verify eligibility of costs and track scope and budget changes. Regularly monitor actual grant expenditures against budgets.

• Prepare, analyze and issue accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, semi-annually and final reports as required by grantors.

Demonstrated Abilities:

• Good organizational and project management skills

• Ability to set priorities, take initiative and meet deadlines

• Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze and interpret data for accuracy

• Ability to communicate financial/accounting information clearly and concisely

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree is preferred, but that extensive work experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

• And 3-5 years of relevant experience, preferably with a nonprofit organization

• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and government grant guidelines

• Proficient with Microsoft applications (i.e., Excel and Word) and use of the Internet
