Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Associate will conduct independent and collaborative research in a mentored training environment. The individual will design and execute experiments, analyze and interpret data, and contribute to publications and grant applications, while developing advanced scientific and professional skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and ability to learn to advance projects
  • Generate hypotheses, design experiments, interpret data, trouble shoot and optimize experiments
  • Be able to analyze and interpret data from different sources and draw relevant conclusions
  • Be able to present results at internal and external meetings
  • Accurately document experiments
  • Contribute to the writing of reports and manuscripts with increasing responsibility over time
  • Work collaboratively across lab functions and train other junior lab staff as needed
  • Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned or directed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: PhD in Biomedical Sciences or Biology

Experience: Recent PhD graduate with demonstrated experience in cardiovascular biology, molecular biology, or a related biomedical field. Experience with experimental design, data analysis, and standard laboratory techniques (e.g., cell culture, molecular assays, animal models) is required. Prior experience in cardiac biology, metabolism, or regenerative biology is preferred but not required.

  • Have strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent data presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Possess strong attention to detail, analytical, time management, and interpersonal skills

Work Environment:

The work environment is primarily a biomedical research laboratory setting. The employee will routinely work with standard laboratory equipment and reagents, including but not limited to biological samples, chemicals, and small laboratory instruments. The position will involve work with animal models and requires adherence to institutional safety protocols, biosafety regulations, and IACUC guidelines.

The role may also include time spent in an office setting for data analysis, manuscript preparation, and virtual meetings. Exposure to moderate noise levels, laboratory equipment, and variable environmental conditions typical of research laboratories should be expected.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to perform the physical activities required to carry out laboratory-based research, including but not limited to: prolonged periods of standing and/or sitting; manual dexterity and fine motor skills for handling laboratory equipment and performing precise experimental procedures; frequent use of computers and standard office equipment; and the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light to moderate loads.

The position may require working with laboratory reagents, biological materials, and animal models, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The individual must be able to follow all institutional safety protocols and procedures.

Work Location: This is an onsite position; candidates must be willing to work onsite in San Diego. Out-of-state applicants must disclose their willingness to relocate.

Compensation: The expected hiring rate for this position is $70,304.00/annually commensurate with Postdoctoral experience.
