We are hiring an experienced Claims Manager to managea high-volume portfolio of primarily general liability with auto, and workers compensation claims arising from pipeline construction and utility service line operations across multiple states, including underground utility strike (dig-in) claims, directional bore incidents, and litigated matters.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Receive initial notification of claims and guide employees on how to properly manage the circumstances.
  • Investigate claims for cause, compensability, and liability.
  • Track the receipt of the appropriate paperwork for all claims, set up claim files, and enter information into the Risk Management Information System (RMIS) upon receipt.
  • Oversee reporting of automobile, general liability, property, and workers compensation claims to insurance carriers. Maintain accurate documentation of claims.
  • Actively track open claims and interface with insurance carriers, physicians, and other third parties to ensure that claims are being managed aggressively.
  • Manage reserves, settlement consults and claim payments.
  • Manage and assist counsel on litigated matters.
  • Adjust and manage 1st party auto and property losses.
  • Negotiate, settle, and process payments for nominal claims.
  • Responsible for managing third-party subrogation claims, including pursuit of recovery against negligent locating companies and utilities on dig-in incidents.
  • Investigate and manage underground utility strike (dig-in) claims, including review of 811 locate tickets, white-line documentation, tolerance zone compliance, and assessment of locator fault vs. contractor fault.
  • Coordinate with field personnel, safety teams, and operations to obtain incident documentation including locate records, bore logs, bell hole inspection reports, and Stop Work Authority records.
  • Manage claim activity in RiskConnect or similar RMIS, including reserve setting, loss reporting to carriers, and coordination with TPA administrators across multiple states and lines of coverage.
  • Respond to inquiries and complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, and members of the business community.
  • Identify trends and collaborate with Safety Department to identify which safety issues are driving frequency and severity in companys auto, workers compensation, and property damage losses.
  • Assist in preparing quarterly loss data on recordable and preventable accidents.
  • Ensure that state-specific information received from the carrier is disseminated to the appropriate area office.
  • Attend Safety incident reviews and update the RMIS accordingly.
  • Attend Safety Meetings and Compliance Trainings to present field personnel with information regarding damage reporting.
  • Assist with insurance renewals and Certificate of Insurance requests as needed.
  • Attend and present Claim Best Practices for leadership training.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma. Significant post-secondary course work.

  • 3+ years experience in multi-line claims. Data Entry MS Office experience.

  • Working knowledge of auto, general liability, property and workers compensation coverage.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and treatment protocols along with laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders and agency rules.

  • Read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Sense of urgency in responding to inquiries and complaints.

  • Effectively present data to management team, public groups, and/or boards of directors.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from accredited university.
  • Multi-state general liability claims; prior experience in construction, utility, or pipeline contracting industries strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with underground utility damage claims, 811 one-call compliance, locate ticket analysis, and directional bore or excavation operations a significant plus.
  • Experience with high-deductible insurance programs, TPA coordination, and claims management systems such as RiskConnect. Familiarity with multi-party liability analysis in excavation or construction damage claims.
