Position Title: Radiologic Technologist l Department: Diagnostic Imaging

Reports To: CNO/Designee

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job Summary:

Under general supervision of a Radiologist or Rad Tech II or III, operates radiographic equipment, to produce images of structures in the human body that are utilized by physicians for the diagnosis of disease processes, pathology and/or trauma. Utilizes technical judgment and skills to ensure that produced images are of the highest diagnostic quality, and, demonstrate the area(s) of interest.

Experience and Qualifications:

• Experience performing all diagnostic imaging procedures in a hospital setting.

Education, Licensure and/or Certifications:

• Associate's degree in radiologic technology from accredited school
• Current California Radiologic / Fluoroscopy Technologist (CRT) license
• Licensed with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
• Current BLS certification.
• Must be proactive with current advances in technology.

Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but is not limited to the following):

• Performs radiologic examinations according to departmental protocols within diagnostic imaging department as well as operating room, emergency department and hospital patient rooms; positions patients, provides immobilization devices as required and selects technical factor that will result in optimum imaging for each individual patient. Reviews orders, correlates patient's clinical history with exam being performed; reviews previous studies when follow up and progressive studies are requested. Consults with Rad Tech II, III or department supervisor.
• Ensures accuracy of patient information (name and date of birth), while maintaining patient privacy and confidentiality. Captures required documentation for PACS and CPSI or EMR. Assists with screening patients for correct exam and medical history information.
• Maintains appropriate and adequate supplies for department procedures.
• Assists radiologist or orthopedic physicians during fluoroscopic procedures.
• Offers help moving patients to and from radiology.
• Reviews images and prepares images for radiologist or NovaRad interpretation and transmits images to the PACS system.
• Maintains working knowledge of all department equipment and devices. Reports equipment malfunctions appropriately; reports accidents and/or unusual incidents as well as unsafe conditions to department supervisor or after-hours supervisor.
• Assumes responsibilities for the needs of patient during procedure. Provides service-oriented communication with patient; explaining procedure; answering questions. Emphasizes a personalized, individualized, compassionate patient care atmosphere at all times. Dismisses patients and/or assists with patient transport at end of procedure.
• Provides instructions on appropriate safety measures to patients, family members, and hospital staff as required; ensures appropriate safety precautions are followed. Applies appropriate measures (ALARA Principles) for minimizing radiation exposure to patients and self. Records fluoroscopy time used during procedures.
• Functions as part of resuscitation team during Code Blue and/or Rapid Response Team situations when needed.
• Maintains all materials needed and linen supply on daily basis; maintains general order and cleanliness of x-ray rooms.
• Rotates and shares on call responsibilities for General Radiology service areas.
• Pursues ongoing continuing education to keep licenses current.
• Attends departmental meetings. Reads department emails routinely.

Supervisory: This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
