About This Position
Purpose of Position:
Operates complex or specialized equipment to construct and maintain highways, bridges, airfields, marine facilities, county building and facilities, adjacent terrain, and landfill sites.
Essential Job Functions:
Establishes and maintains grade lines from survey stacks or site plans for roads, drainage channels, landfill operations and general construction and work sites.
Establishes and maintains traffic control at road construction and work sites independently performs the work task that supervises road crews.
Performs general labor tasks utilizing power and hand tools associated with site construction, including but not limited to, material placement excavation, compaction, general carpentry, trash, and debris removal.
Performs routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Certifications (minimum qualifications):
• High school diploma or GED with five years of related work experience and three years of supervisor experience require; or any equivalent combination of education training and experience which provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities for this job.
• Subject to on-call 24 hours a day.
• Possession of a class A or B Commercial Driver's License valid in the state of Maryland is required.
Physical requirements and working environment:
• Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials. This position requires- climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, hearing, seeing,
and repetitive motion.
• Must be able to exert over fifty pounds of force occasionally, and or up to thirty pounds force frequently. Physical demand requirements are at levels with those for heavy work.
• Must be able to endure high heat conditions and sub-freezing temperatures. Must be able to work in tight and closed spaces for extended periods of time.
• Clear vision and hearing, including the ability to communicate effectively in various environments.
• Comfortable working in both indoor and outdoor settings, exposed to varying weather conditions.
Other:
• May be required to work on religious holidays.
• Regular and predictable attendance is required.
• Must work cooperatively with others.
• When position requires vehicle operation, responsible for the safety, readiness and operation of the vehicle and must abide by Dorchester’s safe driving policy.
