About This Position
POSITION SUMMARY: The Dentist provides comprehensive preventive, diagnostic, restorative, and surgical dental services to patients within the dental program. This role is responsible for developing and implementing individualized treatment plans, supervising dental assistants during patient care, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered oral health services. The Dentist actively participates in quality improvement initiatives and supports daily clinic operations while maintaining accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) to ensure regulatory compliance and data integrity.
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Dentist is a provider in the dental program responsible for comprehensive dental care in the dental department. The Staff Dentist will provide care and determine treatment plans for all dental patients. They will perform dental initial, follow-up, endodontic, prosthodontic, prophylactic, restorative, and surgical dental care. The Staff Dentist will participate in dental quality of care initiatives and support the day-to-day operations of the dental clinic. This position plays a critical role in ensuring data integrity and compliance through accurate documentation of the electronic health record (EHR).
Essential Job Functions
The following duties are mandatory requirements of the job:
· Supervise the performance of dental assistants performing their job during patient treatment
· Examine the head, neck, oral cavity, teeth, and their supporting structures
· Assimilate a modality of treatment for each patient to restore form and function to the dentition, treating all existing disease
· Assimilation of a schedule of treatment and hygiene regimen to prevent oral disease and processes
· Perform restorative procedures listed but not limited to pulp capping (direct and indirect), amalgam restoration (with and without pins), composite restorations, and cosmetic bonding, including diastema closure.
· Provide chair-side support for clinical providers (four-handed dentistry)
· Perform periodontic procedures listed, but not limited to periodontal examination, scaling, root planning, curettage, and periodontal surgical procedures
· Perform prosthetic procedures listed, but not limited to crown and bridge preparation, fabrication of temporary restorations, preparation and placements of intracanal posts, fabrication of maxillary and mandibular complete and partial dentures, preparation and fabrication of porcelain laminates.
· Perform oral surgical procedures, but not limited to simple extraction of one or more teeth, extraction of teeth and their roots requiring elevation of a flap and or sectioning of teeth, alveoplasty, alveolectomy, tuberosity reduction, biopsy of soft and hard tissue, and the removal of epulis
Other Responsibilities
The following duties are to be performed as assigned by the supervisor:
· Participate in CQI activities
· Participate in multidisciplinary task forces, committees, and projects.
Professional Representation and Development
· Maintain a positive image of VIP Community Services in the community and within partner organizations
· Attend all mandatory in-service trainings annually
· Attend seminars and trainings to support ongoing professional development
· Participate in team meetings and comply with all Dental Health Services policies and procedures
Requirements:Minimum Requirements:
· Graduate of United States Dental School, Board Certified, and possess a NY State Dental License.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to speak, read, and write English required
· Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred
· Strong attention to detail and ability to manage both client-facing and administrative tasks
· Assistance in maintaining active and archived case records
· Basic Computer Skills with the ability to learn a dental software system
