This role is a critical position for ensuring the health, safety, and regulatory compliance of energy and infrastructure projects across the U.S. and Canada. The Project Safety Manager I will implement safety management systems on wind, solar, substation, transmission, and energy storage projects, driving a culture of care and proactive risk mitigation. This role involves collaborating with project teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies while managing daily safety operations, incident investigations, and compliance documentation. The position requires strong leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on engagement in dynamic, high-risk project environments. - Implement project-specific Safety Management Systems (SMS) across diverse energy projects
- Serve as the subject matter expert for health and safety, providing guidance, coaching, and training to project teams
- Develop, maintain, and enforce site safety documentation including Site Safety Plans, Emergency Response Plans, Job Hazard Analyses, and Site Rules
- Lead safety inspections, audits, incident investigations, and corrective actions, ensuring regulatory compliance
- Oversee Permit to Work processes, safety material distribution, and PPE management
- Coordinate emergency response efforts, facilitate drug and alcohol testing, and communicate incidents to corporate HSQE teams
- Conduct safety meetings, training sessions, and implement safety incentive programs to promote a culture of proactive safety
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety or related field preferred
- 3+ years of construction industry safety experience required; 5+ years preferred
- Energy or utility industry safety experience preferred
- OSHA 30 certification required; OSHA 510, 500, NFPA 70E/CSA Z462, and other safety certifications preferred
- Experience with ANSI/DOT/EPA/OSHA/NFPA/IEEE/CSA regulations and standards
- Strong skills in incident investigation, root cause analysis, hazard identification, risk assessment, and technical writing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and safety/incident management software
- Ability to travel 76–100% domestically and internationally, with a valid driver’s license
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide team members
