The Dispatcher serves as the central link between patients, clinical sites, and interpreters. This role is responsible for coordinating and prioritizing interpreter requests to ensure timely access to language services that support patient flow and high-quality care. The Dispatcher uses strong organizational and communication skills to problem-solve in a fast-paced environment and minimize delays in service.
Depending on operational needs and dispatching volume, the Dispatcher may also assist with interpreter scheduling and provide occasional phone or face-to-face interpreting.
• Dispatch interpreters in response to scheduled and urgent requests received via phone, pager, fax, and computer systems.
• Maintain accurate, organized records of all interpreter requests, assignments, and unfilled requests.
• Prioritize calls and problem-solve in real time to minimize delays and support patient care needs.
• Communicate effectively with interpreters and clinical sites to promote efficient workflow.
• Respond diplomatically to service concerns and complaints, documenting issues as needed.
• Delegate work assertively and hold staff accountable for assigned tasks.
• Provide timely feedback to management regarding staff performance, system challenges, and customer service issues.
• Maintain interpreter beepers and alphanumeric paging equipment.
• Create daily interpreter schedules as needed.
• Provide phone or face-to-face interpreting services when required.
• Deploy interpreters with consideration for age-specific needs and developmental factors of the patient population served.
Qualifications• Education: High school diploma or GED required
• Work Experience: No experience needed (candidate will be trained)
