TEAM LEAD in Erie, Michigan at Toledo Steel Supply, Inc.

The Plant Team Lead participates in supervising a Grinding team in completion of work processes. The Team Lead will also have the skills and ability to operate a Blanchard Grinder and train employees. This position will be responsible for overseeing and assisting in the setup and operation of machines to grind flat surfaces to bring into set tolerances using calipers and micrometers. The ideal candidate must be able to identify and prepare materials per customer’s specification by reading prints to verify dimensions of metal parts in order to accomplish certain tolerances. Team leaders are to motivate and inspire their team by creating a positive working environment through empowerment and continuous communication.

The work schedule is Sunday through Tuesday 6:00 pm to 6:00 am, and Wednesday 6:00 pm to 12:00 am. Overtime is scheduled on a rotating basis.

• Fully capable of operating all machines within department and able to fill in whenever additional coverage is needed

• Assist with establishing and communicating team goals

• Oversee assigned shift operation of the grinding department, ensuring safe practices

• Monitor team performance and report on metrics

• Identify training needs and provide coaching

• Listen to team members’ feedback and resolve issues or conflicts

• Conduct team meetings to update employees and share performance goals

• Ensure adherence to company regulations, policies and procedures

• Provide answers to employee questions, assist with employee issues, and oversee work quality and compliance with guidelines

• High School Diploma or GED

• Minimum of 1 year work experience in manufacturing or production operations

• Blanchard Grinder experience preferred, or train to become proficient within 1 year

• 1 year previous experience in a leadership role

This position operates in a manufacturing shop environment. Exposure to noise, chemicals, and materials consistent with a manufacturing environment is constant. This is a physically demanding position; maintaining the physical strength to lift materials up to 50lbs. Able to endure prolonged standing, walking, stooping, and bending.
