About This Position
The Barback is a crucial support role to the Bartender, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the bar. This position is responsible for maintaining stock levels, cleanliness, and providing necessary support to allow bartenders to focus on crafting excellent drinks and providing exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.
Reports To: Bar Manager, Head Bartender
Essential Functions:
- Stocking and Restocking:
- Ensuring all bar stations are adequately stocked with liquor, beer, wine, mixers, garnishes, ice, glassware, and other necessary supplies before, during, and after service.
- Transporting and lifting cases of beverages, kegs, and other heavy items safely and efficiently.
- Rotating stock to ensure freshness and minimize waste (FIFO - First In, First Out).
- Monitoring inventory levels and communicating low stock to the Bartender or Bar Manager.
- Glassware Management:
- Collecting and washing used glassware promptly and efficiently, either manually or using a glass washer.
- Polishing glassware to ensure it is clean and presentable.
- Ensuring an adequate supply of clean glassware is available at all bar stations.
- Ice Management:
- Ensuring ice bins are consistently filled throughout service.
- Transporting and loading ice as needed.
- Maintaining the cleanliness of ice machines and bins.
- Garnish Preparation:
- Preparing and replenishing garnishes such as fruit slices, olives, and other drink accompaniments.
- Ensuring garnishes are fresh and properly stored.
- Maintaining Cleanliness and Organization:
- Keeping the bar area, including counters, floors, sinks, and storage areas, clean, organized, and free of spills and debris.
- Emptying trash and recycling bins regularly.
- Cleaning up spills and breakages promptly and safely.
- Assisting Bartenders:
- Fetching items requested by bartenders quickly and efficiently.
- Preparing basic drink components (e.g., simple syrup, juice blends).
- Changing kegs and beer taps as needed.
- Assisting with opening and closing duties as assigned.
Other Tasks:
- Assisting with inventory counts as requested.
- Learning basic drink recipes and preparation techniques.
- Communicating effectively with bartenders, servers, and management.
- Adhering to all health, safety, and sanitation regulations.
- Performing other duties as assigned by the Bar Manager or Head Bartender.

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
- Ability to bend, stoop, and reach frequently.
- Exposure to varying temperatures (e.g., walk-in coolers, hot dishwashing area).
- Ability to work in a noisy environment.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a bar or restaurant setting is a plus.
- Food handler's permit may be required.
- Must be of legal age to handle alcoholic beverages as per local regulations.

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled mandatory training sessions and meetings is required.
