What You Will Do
  • Oversee the scheduling and delivery of daytime workshops and evening classes for wastewater operators across Illinois, serve as a trainer, and develop instructional materials that support certification, certification upgrades, and continuing education required by the Illinois EPA.
  • Coordinate with the Illinois EPA to schedule certification exams following trainings and ensure operators are prepared to meet state and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Write and update certification exam questions and facilitate the annual meeting of the Illinois Waste Water Supply Certification Review Committee to review and validate new exam content.
  • Serve as the primary Water Pollution Control instructor for the Water Quality Control Operations Program by developing teaching materials and hands-on exercises, evaluating student work, coordinating certification exams, and supporting student internships and job placement efforts.
  • Participate with ERTC staff in the upgrades, operations, and maintenance of the ERTC Pilot Plant to extend its useful life and maintain training capabilities.
  • Supervise the SIUE wastewater treatment plant as Operator-in-Charge, sign all reports submitted to the Illinois EPA, and assist with preparing and submitting applications for required permits, including NPDES and Sludge Disposal permits.


FLSA: Exempt

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

  • Class 1 Wastewater Operator Certification - Illinois (or equivalent)
  • 5+ Years of experience working in the wastewater field

    Preferred Qualifications
  • Collection Systems Operator Certification- Illinois(or equivalent)
  • Experience in teaching technical courses
  • Experience in managing a classroom
  • Experience in teaching students 19-55 in same classroom
