About This Position
SUMMARY Under general supervision, perform routine and preventive maintenance painting duties, and a full range of specialized painting projects in support of Marine and/or Complex Fab production. Working independently and as a member of a work crew, sandblast and paint steel structures in a heavy industrial environment; perform inspections, cleanups, storage and disposal of paint products, and operates various tools and equipment.
Duties and Responsibilities The following duties are typical for this role. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices. * Perform a variety of duties related to prepping, painting and sandblasting small steel parts and large steel structures such as tanks, deck enclosures, valve assemblies, hull plates, and wing compartments.* Abrade surfaces of metal to impart specified finish using sandblasting and related equipment. Shovel or pour sand into machine hopper. Prepare equipment for blasting. Manually direct blast nozzle over the surface of the product. * Select premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors. * Mask, prime, caulk and paint surfaces utilizing conventional and airless sprayer, brush, roller, and related equipment.* Apply various coatings including polyamine cured pure epoxy, urethanes and antifouling. * Inspect parts for complete surface coverage at the required level of thickness in accordance with job specifications and SSPC (Society for Protective Coatings) standards. * Maintain equipment hoses, nozzles, pumps, pressure tanks, spray guns, and tips. * Follow standard safety procedures while working in hazardous conditions.
QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities The following generally describes requirements to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period to successfully perform the assigned duties. * Knowledge of methods and techniques related to painting and sandblasting in a heavy industrial manufacturing environment. * Knowledge of industrial paint specifications, coating types and coating process. * Understanding of how to measure paint thickness. * Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices. * Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. * Ability to communicate effectively as a member of a team. * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. * Strong worth ethic, flexible, reliable, and punctual.
Experience and Education* 2-3 years of progressively responsible painting experience in an industrial/commercial environment preferred. License or Certificate* C7, C12 and C14 SSPC certifications are preferred
CompensationThe base pay range for this role is $22 – $34 per hour.
