Position Summary
The Waterfront Engineer provides technical engineering support for complex ship repair projects across facilities and waterfront operations. This role provides technical expertise in vessel docking, mooring, and repair activities while ensuring shipyard infrastructure and support systems meet operational, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, the Waterfront Engineer supports safe, efficient, and compliant project delivery for assigned projects. This role oversees docking and mooring planning, supports structural repair design and documentation, and coordinates with operations, production trades, and external authorities to ensure successful execution from planning through completion.
Domestic travel may be required.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Manage assigned projects, including cost, schedule, quality, stakeholder coordination, and compliance with regulatory, environmental, safety, and permitting requirements.
· Lead waterfront operations by developing mooring plans, performing docking calculations, and coordinating vessel movements with pilots, tugs, and operations teams.
· Provide support and ensure constructability, accuracy, and adherence to shipyard and regulatory standards by developing and revising structural repair drawings, shop sketches and BOMs.
· Collaborate with internal departments, clients, and external authorities to support policy implementation, infrastructure planning, and execution of ship repair and waterfront operations.
Requirements:· Proficiency in AutoCAD, ISO drawing standards and technical documentation practices.
· Experience performing mooring, vessel stability, and docking/undocking calculations, including Marine Travel Lift operations.
· Experience drafting vessel repair plans, interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and survey reports
· Strong knowledge of shipyard and regulatory standards, including steel structures and welding symbols, ABS/NAVSEA requirements, Navy regulations (NSTM 997, MIL-STD-1625D).
· Must have strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills.
· Must have strong organizational, time-management, written, and verbal communication skills.
· Must have ability to maintain confidentiality and a professional demeanor.
· All employees are required to adhere to ISO and OHSAS policies established by FMSNA and shall have high values for safety awareness.
· Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
· Bachelor’s Degree required, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· 3 Years of Maritime industry experience required.
· Experience in shipbuilding, manufacturing, and/or defense contractor industries with, Navy Regulations NSTM 997 and MILD-STD-1625D preferred.
· Certifications and/or Licenses: Have or willing to obtain Lean Six Sigma certification.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
The nature of the position requires the individual to wear and work in personal protective equipment. This position is required to stand, walk, sit, kneel, bend; talk or hear, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects or controls; reach with hands and arms. Regularly required to stoop, kneel, bend, crouch and lift up to 35 pounds frequently and up to 50lbs occasionally. The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to excessive noise and moving equipment.
