The Soft Goods Engineer will support the space program located in Houston, TX.
Engineer will support soft goods design, development, prototyping, fabrication, and assembly activities for technical projects. This role works closely with engineers, designers, and other technical team members to help translate project requirements into practical solutions and support execution of assigned tasks.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the design, development, and fabrication of soft goods articles and related assemblies.
- Collaborate with engineers, designers, and technical staff to understand requirements and support implementation of practical design and fabrication solutions.
- Develop patterns, mockups, and prototypes to evaluate fit, function, manufacturability, and performance.
- Interpret drawings, sketches, specifications, and work instructions to fabricate and assemble soft goods items.
- Assist with creation, review, or update of fabrication drawings, build instructions, and supporting documentation.
- Identify and evaluate materials, fabrication methods, and process improvements to support quality, repeatability, and efficiency.
- Conduct basic checks during fabrication to verify compliance with requirements and workmanship standards.
- Communicate design and fabrication considerations, issues, and recommendations clearly to project team.
- Support installation, integration, testing, or field activities as needed, based on project requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED:

- Must have a bachelor's degree in engineering technology, industrial design or apparel design.
- Must have 3+ years of recent and related work experience.
- In lieu of degree: Candidates with 7+ years of recent and related work experience will be considered.
- Practical experience in soft goods design, fabrication, prototyping, or manufacturing support.
- Experience working in a lab, shop, prototype, or fabrication environment.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and instructions.
- Hands-on experience with sewing machines and general fabrication tools/equipment.
- Ability to develop and fabricate prototypes, mockups, or production support items from concepts or drawings.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation, communication, and file management.
DESIRED:
- Experience with technical soft goods (for example: sewn assemblies, covers, bags, insulation/blanket type products, restraints, inflatables, or similar articles)
- Experience supporting engineered products in regulated, high reliability, or mission critical environments
- Experience with design/drafting software (such as AutoCAD, Rhino, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
- Experience with Adobe tools for layouts, markups, or technical communication
- Familiarity with prototype to production transition, configuration control, and documentation practices
- Experience selecting materials and evaluating fabrication methods for performance and manufacturability
- Experience supporting testing, installation, or field integration activities
- Ability to train or mentor others on soft goods fabrication techniques and equipment use
WORK LOCATION:
- This position is located onsite; some travel may be required.
- Schedules are subject to change based on the requirements of the position and/or customer needs.
BACKGROUND INVESTIGATIONS REQUIRED:

- Must have experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and TEAMS.

- Able to follow company programs, processes, procedures, practices, requirements, goals, and objectives.
- Must be organized with good time management skills and must be able to work outside normal schedule and adjust schedule to meet peak periods and surge requirements.
- Generally, an office environment, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task.
- Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
- Regular attendance in accordance with an established work schedule is critical.
