Manufacturing Engineer at Domaille Engineering – Rochester, Minnesota
About This Position
POSITION SUMMARY
The Manufacturing Engineer plays a key role in developing quality-driven, cost-effective manufacturing processes for parts and assemblies that support both of Domaille Engineering’s business units: aerospace and defense contract manufacturing and our fiber optic equipment product line. This role partners closely with operations, sales, and production to translate customer specifications and program requirements into robust, efficient processes that ensure repeatability and reliability.
ITAR REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Process Development
- Designs and documents fixturing, tooling, and production processes; recommends equipment or process enhancements that support quality and productivity as necessary.
- Incorporates mistake-proofing, unattended machining/probing, ergonomic improvements, and optimized deburring processes to enhance efficiency and quality.
- Develops time standards and analyzes machining and assembly cycle times to identify improvement opportunities and support accurate quoting for the Sales team.
- Coordinates with Operations to ensure processes and documentation are complete prior to production start.
Planning & ERP Management
- Accurately inputs and maintains manufacturing plans in the ERP system, including part creation and inventory, product structure, routings, work orders, and configuration control through effective change notices (ECNs).
- Updates ERP records based on engineering changes, job closings, corrective action reports (CARs), and continuous improvement actions.
- Provides technical guidance to production and helps ensure alignment across engineering, operations, scheduling, and project timelines.
- Supplies the N/C Programmers with complete machining plans, including any special cutting tools, fixtures, and mistake-proofing considerations.
Project Support
- Coordinates assigned projects, ensuring deliverables are executed on time, within cost constraints, and aligned with customer and internal requirements.
- Prepares and maintains detailed project documentation and implements engineering changes driven by customers or internal needs.
- Investigates out-of-spec issues, provides engineering support to production personnel, and communicates resolutions to customers as necessary.
- Develops or redesigns tooling alongside supervisors to improve quality, reduce costs, and support manufacturing efficiency.
- Assists Program Managers with technical information for proposals, customer updates, and project planning.
- Supports installation, debugging, and commissioning of equipment and tooling for new or revised processes.
SKILL REQUIREMENTS
- Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel) and ERP systems such as Global Shop.
- Possess math aptitude to perform engineering calculations related to machining.
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced production environment.
- Strong professionalism and effective written and oral communication, both internally and externally.
- Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Collaborate well cross-functionally with project managers, materials procurement, design, process development, quality, and customers.
- Demonstrate a hands-on, self-starting attitude with strong interpersonal and technical skills.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least two years of experience in manufacturing engineering, process development, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on manufacturing/engineering experience; a degree in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in the machining industry is preferred, particularly job shop machining with knowledge in the design and selection of fixturing and tooling for complex part setups and multiple prints.
- Proficiency with CAD/CAM systems and solid modeling.
- Experience developing CNC programs is preferred.
- Familiarity with ISO quality systems and World Class Manufacturing principles.
- Ability to travel occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position is office-based and involves regular exposure and interaction with active manufacturing areas on the production floor.
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and composite or steel-toe shoes, must be worn as required.
- The work environment features standard plant lighting, operating machinery, and typical ambient conditions associated with a manufacturing facility.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Sit or stand as needed.
- Walking primarily on a level surface for periods throughout the day.
- Reaching above shoulder height, below the waist, or lifting as required to reach documents or store materials throughout the workday.
- Proper lifting techniques required.
