Company Overview: Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School is a leader in Chinese Immersion education, achieving high levels of academic and organizational success. Our diverse and inclusive community reaches far beyond the walls of our building. Position Overview: Washington Yu Ying Public Charter School is seeking an experienced, systems-minded Instructional Coach to strengthen instructional delivery across PK3-5 at both the Elementary Campus (EC) and Early Years Campus (EYC). This role focuses on how instruction is carried out in classrooms, through observation, feedback, practice, and side-by-side coaching, rather than curriculum development.

The Instructional Coach manages a limited coaching caseload (36 teachers per cycle) while also designing and codifying a schoolwide coaching system that builds the capacity of Executive Leadership Team members and teacher leaders to coach effectively and consistently across two campuses, eight grade levels, and two languages.

For SY2627, the primary instructional content focus will be Mathematics, with flexibility to coach across all subject areas.

You will drive Yu Yings mission, vision and teams success by:
  • Strengthening instructional delivery across EC and EYC through high-quality coaching.

  • Improving instructional practice across two languages and eight grade levels.
Key Responsibilities 1. Direct Instructional Coaching
  • Coach a caseload of 3-6 teachers per cycle across EC and EYC.

  • Support teachers across all career stages, from novice to veteran educators.
  • Focus coaching on instructional moves, teacher actions, and student engagement.
2. Math & Instructional Delivery (SY2627 Focus)
  • Lead coaching cycles with a focus on math instructional delivery, emphasizing:
    Conceptual understanding and student reasoning
    • Mathematical discourse and responsive instruction
  • Use content as the vehicle for improving instruction, not the end goal.
  • Support math instruction within transdisciplinary units when appropriate.
  • Maintain flexibility to coach across content areas based on school priorities.
3. IB-Aligned & Transdisciplinary Instruction
  • Coach teachers to translate IB philosophy and transdisciplinary planning into daily classroom practice.
  • Support instruction that reflects IB Approaches to Teaching, including inquiry, conceptual understanding, collaboration, and reflection.
  • Emphasize execution: how lessons unfold, how students engage, and how learning is assessed in real time.
  • Support instruction across two languages, with attention to language immersion and language acquisition.
4. Coaching Systems & Program Development
  • Design and codify the Yu Ying Coaching System used by Executive Leadership Team members and teacher leaders.
  • Develop and maintain a Coaching Playbook, including:
    • Coaching rubrics and instructional look-fors
    • Observation and feedback tools
    • Coaching trackers and cycle templates
    • FAQs and sample feedback language
  • Ensure coaching practices are consistent, evidence-based, and aligned across campuses.
5. Collaboration & Alignment
  • Work closely with PYP Directors at both campuses to ensure instructional delivery aligns with the planning and curriculum structures they own.
  • Partner with EC & EYC Principals to identify instructional priorities and trends.
  • Collaborate with the EYC Fellows Coach to align coaching practices and professional development.
  • Serve as a bridge between instructional vision, planning, and classroom execution.
