Job Description
The Nick Schnyder Law Firm is seeking an experienced Accountant with a minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience and a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. This role is critical to maintaining the financial integrity of the firm, with a strong emphasis on trust accounting, case-related financial management, and accurate reporting in a high-volume PI environment.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable
Oversee and maintain trust/IOLTA accounts in compliance with legal and ethical requirements
Process and reconcile settlement disbursements, including client payments, attorney fees, and third-party liens (medical providers, etc.)
Perform monthly bank and trust reconciliations with strict attention to detail
Track case costs and expenses, ensuring proper allocation and reimbursement
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for leadership
Assist with cash flow management and forecasting, particularly tied to case pipelines
Support year-end close and coordination with external CPA/tax advisors
Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting best practices
Collaborate with HR and leadership on payroll, budgeting, and financial planning as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required)
Minimum 5 years of accounting experience (law firm or professional services environment preferred)
Strong understanding of trust accounting/IOLTA compliance (highly preferred)
Experience with settlement accounting, lien resolution, or case cost tracking is a plus
Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks or similar) and Microsoft Excel
High level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail
Ability to handle sensitive financial information with confidentiality and professionalism
Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally with legal and administrative teams
Preferred Skills
Prior experience in a plaintiff personal injury firm
Familiarity with case management systems (e.g., Filevine, etc.)
Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
Knowledge of contingency fee structures and financial workflows in PI firms
