Shop Manager Lead Fleet Maintenance and Operations for Premier Roadway Construction
Job Overview
Company: Florence Cement Company.
Salary/Pay Rate: $80,000 $110,000 annually.
Location: Metropolitan Detroit Area.
Job/Employment Type: Full Time.
Mandatory Licenses & Certifications: Valid Driver's License.
The Opportunity
You will serve as a critical operational leader, driving the maintenance and readiness of a diverse fleet of heavy equipment and automotive assets. This role allows you to lead a dedicated mechanical team while ensuring the technical infrastructure of a third-generation family business remains at peak performance. You will have the autonomy to manage shop workflows and the support of a leadership team that values long-term professional growth.
How You Will Make an Impact
Supervise and mentor shop mechanics and support personnel to ensure high-quality repair delivery.
Execute daily and weekly work plans to maintain strict project timelines and equipment availability.
Oversee the diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of complex automotive and heavy equipment systems.
Manage inventory and procurement of parts and materials to prevent project delays or logistical issues.
Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, timecards, and safety reports to ensure transparency.
Coordinate complex repair timelines with field superintendents to support large-scale roadway installations.
Enforce strict safety protocols and shop standards to maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free environment.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of a high school diploma or GED.
Proven leadership experience specifically within a shop or mechanical environment.
Strong ability to diagnose and troubleshoot automotive and heavy equipment issues.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical documentation and shop management systems.
Excellent communication and organizational skills necessary for managing team dynamics.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
Completion of technical or trade school program or equivalent technical training.
Advanced knowledge of repair techniques and specialized heavy equipment maintenance.
Demonstrated experience in mentorship or training junior mechanics in a shop environment.
