Senior Estimator
Purpose of Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and skilled Senior Estimator to join our team, reporting directly to the Commercial Director. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive bids for various electrical projects, ensuring profitability while meeting client expectations. You will collaborate closely with project managers, engineers and other key stakeholders to collect necessary data, evaluate project requirements and create cost estimates that deliver the most efficient and cost-effective solutions
Responsibilities of Role
- Review tender documents, drawings and specifications to fully understand the project scope and requirements.
- Conduct take-offs of materials, labour and equipment, using industry-standard estimating software.
- Research and source electrical materials and equipment, ensuring cost-effectiveness and quality.
- Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates, including labour, materials, equipment and other project-related expenses.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits and discussions with clients and project stakeholders to gain further project understanding.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and subcontractors to secure the best possible pricing and terms.
- Prepare and submit bids within deadlines, ensuring compliance with all tender requirements.
- Track and monitor project costs, proactively identifying and addressing any potential cost overruns.
- Assist with project management tasks, such as creating project schedules and coordinating with other departments.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation.
- Monitor project progress and adjust estimates as needed to accommodate changes.
- Support the preparation of tender submissions and bid proposals.
- Ensure all estimates comply with company standards, safety guidelines, and relevant regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field (preferred).
- 5+ years’ experience as an Estimator or in a similar role within the engineering or construction industry.
- Strong understanding of cost estimating, project management, and budgeting principles.
- Proficiency in estimating software and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and industry standards.
