About This Position
Job Summary:
The Patient Care Technician (PCT) plays a vital role in providing direct patient care and supporting clinical staff in a healthcare setting. Working under the supervision of licensed healthcare professionals, the PCT ensures the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care to patients while maintaining a safe, clean, and comfortable environment. In the hospital setting, the Patient Care Technician role will be heavily structured around administrative / secretarial duties. These job duties will ensure that patient paperwork and health information is appropriately scanned and documented into the medical record in order to meet compliance with national regulations and initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
PATIENT CARE:
- Prepare patients for examinations by obtaining vital signs, height, weight, and medical history.
- Initiate Health Lifestyle Questionnaire/SBIRT
- Assist patients with mobility and comfort needs during visits.
- Support physicians and nurses during routine exams, procedures, and treatments.
- Educate patients on basic healthcare practices as directed by clinical staff.
CLINICAL SUPPORT:
- Perform basic diagnostic tests such as blood glucose monitoring and EKGs as required.
- Collect and prepare lab specimens (e.g., blood, urine) for processing.
- Clean and maintain equipment, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
- Assist with patient triage by identifying and communicating priority needs.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT:
- Document patient information and care activities in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Maintain and organize patient charts and records in compliance with confidentiality standards.
- Ensure exam rooms are stocked with necessary supplies and materials.
- Assist with voicemails and patient callbacks as delegated by the clinical staff.
SAFETY AND COMPLIANCE:
- Follow infection control and workplace safety protocols.
- Adhere to office policies and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Respond promptly to medical emergencies under supervision, including performing CPR if certified.
COLLABORATION AND COMMUNICATION:
- Foster positive relationships with patients, families, and staff.
- Act as a liaison between patients and clinical staff, ensuring seamless communication.
- Participate in team meetings and training sessions to stay updated on best practices.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As assigned.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of office equipment and ability to handle multi-time telephones
- Knowledge of medical office practices

AGE-RELATED COMPETENCIES: Demonstrates the basic knowledge and skills necessary to identify age-specific patient needs appropriate for this position.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent Required.
- Completion of a recognized Patient Care Technician program preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Basic proficiency in using EMR systems and general computer applications.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to learn new information quickly.
ENVIROMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Office-based and Emergency Room setting
- Requires prolonged periods of standing, walking, and occasional lifting.
- Exposure to standard clinical materials and occasional infections agents.
- Frequent interactions with patients require emotional resilience and professionalism in challenging situations.
- Fluctuating patient schedules with high patient volumes.
