About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Commercial Attorney to join our team and report directly to the Deputy General Counsel. This role will support and shape complex, high-value partnerships with major technology and platform providers. This role sits at the intersection of emerging technology, data, content licensing, and advanced AI use cases.
We are looking for someone who can operate autonomously, engage directly with senior external partners, and drive strategic deal-making that helps position the company at the forefront of AI innovation and monetizing content.
The ideal candidate has deep experience with sophisticated commercial transactions, excellent drafting and redlining abilities, and the ability to collaborate across a wide range of internal stakeholders, including strategy, technology, government affairs, compliance, and data governance, while guiding the company through novel and evolving legal frameworks.
This position is intentionally designed outside the traditional commercial contracting workflow. You will serve as a key strategic legal partner supporting some of the most forward-looking and consequential initiatives for the company.

Pay Range: $280,000 - $340,000 + Bonus

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership & Deal Support
- Drive high-value agreements with leading AI providers.
- Provide strategic legal counsel to the business development and strategy teams on emerging AI technologies and their impact.
- Lead the legal negotiation, structuring, drafting, and execution of high-impact commercial agreements with technology platforms.
- Lead and manage all aspects of complex, high-stakes commercial agreements.
- Provide forward-looking legal and business guidance on emerging AI use cases, data access, content protection, distribution frameworks, and revenue opportunities.
- Independently draft complex commercial agreements, licensing arrangements, and product-integration agreements.
- Identify and articulate key risks, propose alternative structures, and drive negotiations to resolution while protecting the company's strategic vision and assets.
- Advise on intellectual property matters inherent in content licensing, including copyright, trademark, and data rights.
- Review and refine existing partnership agreements to incorporate AI-specific protections.
- Develop and standardize template agreements, best practices, and playbooks.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Alignment
- Serve as the central legal hub, collaborating closely with and incorporating the views of the internal following global and local teams: strategy, tech and government affairs.
- Serve as the internal subject matter expert on revenue-generating partnership models.
- Manage external counsel relationships for commercial negotiations that require specialized expertise or international jurisdiction knowledge.
Thought Leadership & Emerging Issues
- Monitor and anticipate regulatory, commercial, and industry developments in AI and digital platforms and educate internal teams on their impact.
- Support strategic decision-making by framing legal options within broader business objectives.
Qualifications
Required
- JD or equivalent with strong academic credentials; admitted to practice in NY.
- 7-12 years of commercial legal experience, ideally in technology, media, data licensing, and/or platform partnerships.
- Demonstrated ability to independently lead negotiations for complex, high-value commercial transactions.
- Strong drafting, redlining, and contract-structuring skills for novel or ambiguous deal frameworks.
- Ideally in-house experience operating in a matrixed environment with multiple internal stakeholders.
- Ability to think strategically and advise on the broader business implications of legal positions.
- Excellent communication and client-management skills, with confidence engaging senior executives both internally and externally
- Prior experience with AI, platforms, data licensing, and digital content distribution.
- Experience working for or negotiating with tech platforms.
- Background in technology, media, digital rights, or intellectual property.
- Familiarity with regulatory developments in AI, privacy, and digital media.
