About the Role:

The Systems Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the seamless operation, maintenance, and enhancement of an organization's IT infrastructure within the professional, scientific, and technical services sector. This position is responsible for managing complex systems, troubleshooting technical issues, and implementing solutions that optimize system performance and reliability. The Systems Specialist collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to support business objectives through technology, ensuring that systems are secure, scalable, and aligned with organizational needs. They also contribute to the development and documentation of system processes, policies, and best practices to maintain compliance and operational excellence. Ultimately, this role drives continuous improvement in system functionality and user experience, enabling the organization to maintain a competitive edge in its industry.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in systems administration or a similar technical role.
  • Proficiency with operating systems such as Windows, Linux, or Unix.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN.
  • Experience with system monitoring tools and performance tuning.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, and network issues effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications such as CompTIA Network+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
  • Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, or Bash for automation.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and compliance standards.
  • Experience working in professional, scientific, or technical services environments.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze complex business issues to develop system solutions, upgrade system software and hardware components as required, and coordinate backups all to meet business needs
  • Assist with and organize documentation for business requirements and support testing system upgrades or enhancements
  • Perform application maintenance activities, troubleshoot to isolate and diagnose common system problems, and document system events to ensure continuous functioning
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise-level systems and networks to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade hardware and software components in accordance with organizational standards.
  • Collaborate with IT teams and business units to assess system requirements and implement effective solutions.
  • Develop and maintain system documentation, including configuration records, procedures, and user guides.
  • Conduct regular system audits and security assessments to identify vulnerabilities and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support and training to end-users and staff to enhance system utilization and efficiency.
  • Participate in disaster recovery planning and execution to safeguard critical data and systems.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends to recommend and implement improvements.
