About This Position

MHI Ship Repair & Services is a major marine repair and conversion contractor serving the U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command, Maritime Administration and Commercial ship owners and operators worldwide. Our shipyard is conveniently located in the Mid-Atlantic region at the port of Hampton Roads, Norfolk Virginia.

MHI is seeking a Quality Assurance Specialist who will be responsible for quality assurance inspections on board ships and in shops during ship repair operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs quality assurance audits or checks assuring the use of correct procedures, materials, processes, and technical instructions. conducts inspections of work areas and other general QA inspections (checkpoints).
  • Attends production meetings as necessary to keep up-to-date on job progress. Works with shop superintendents to resolve problems and possible negative workmanship trends.
  • As part of availability planning, develops Test and Inspection plan, performs technical review of work specs to ensure compliance with technical requirements, and conducts pre-availability sub-contract/QA meetings to review subcontract requirements.
  • Provides the Documenter’s initial and updated information to maintain T & I plan and ensure it remains up to date.
  • Observe sub-contractor inspections and reviews sub-contractor procedures for compliance prior to submission for MARMC.
  • Upon conclusion of each job (availability), review the final records to be put into storage.
  • Maintains equipment and assures calibration for tests to be performed.
  • Works with the Lead Quality Assurance Specialist as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Minimum of two years related technical and/or quality experience, preferably in Ship Repair.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficient in blueprint reading/interpretation, and QA systems.
  • Knowledge of shipboard structures and systems required.
  • Must be able to obtain NACE or NBPI certification.
  • Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to interact well with others.
