1st SHIFT SYSTEMS OPERATOR - Marion, VA

American Wood Fibers (AWF) is a manufacturer of both consumer and industrial products that are sold to multiple manufacturers as well as pet, agricultural, and home-heating markets. AWF is comprised of 450+ employees and holds operations at 11 locations, generating over $100M in annual sales revenue. We are currently seeking a candidate for the 1st Shift Systems Operator role in our Marion, VA facility.

JOB SUMMARY

Works in a safe, efficient manner to maximize plant operations.

ESSENCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Primary duties to include, but not limited to the following:

SAFETY:

  • Active participant in the safety committee and promotes safety on a daily basis.
  • Responsible for safety, cleanliness and good housekeeping of entire plant.

PRODUCTION:

  • Assists daily activities of plant employees in plant operations. Assists employees in order to complete assignments according to proper plant procedures. Analyzes system operations to maximize system output.
  • Assists other employees with cleanliness, safety, quality control and optimum production.
  • Confers with the shift supervisors and other system operators, communicates with peers to assure assignments are being properly completed.
  • Assists shipping and receiving as needed.
  • Back up when shift supervisor is out.

QUALITY:

  • Maintains and verifies that all current quality assurance measures are being followed and communicated to production employees, office personnel and customers. Assists in the design and implementation of new procedures as needed.

PERSONAL GROWTH:

  • Attends and participates in scheduled meeting of the plant. Be alert to those around you.
  • Secondary duties: Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATONS:

High School Diploma or GED

Machine operation requires repetitive motion including twisting, bending, and lifting 20-40 pounds, 2-3 times per minute.

Must be able to stand continuously for 8-10-hour shifts.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • The ability to lift, push, pull and carry 25/50/80 pounds regularly
  • The ability to respond quickly to sounds
  • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces
  • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations
  • The ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 40 pounds
  • The ability to work in extreme temperatures and work environment
  • The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly
