Job Title: Scrap Yard Crane Operator

Summary: We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Crane Operator to join our team at our recycling facility. The Crane Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement and sorting of various types of scrap metal using a mobile crane (Excavator) . This role requires precision, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to safety regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Operate a mobile crane (excavator) equipped with a grapple, magnet, or other attachments to load, unload, sort, and move scrap metal materials.
• Efficiently organize, stack and load scrap metal according to material type, size, and destination within the yard.
• Inspect crane daily for any mechanical issues, safety hazards, or needed repairs; report any deficiencies immediately to supervision.
• Perform routine maintenance checks on the crane and attachments as required.
• Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
• Communicate effectively with ground personnel, truck drivers, and other team members to ensure smooth operations.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area around the crane.
• Assist with other yard duties as needed, including general labor, equipment cleaning, or material handling.
• Operate other heavy equipment as directed and qualified.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a crane operator, preferably in a scrap yard, demolition, or heavy industrial environment.
• Strong understanding of crane operations, load limits, rigging techniques, and hand signals.
• Ability to perform pre-operational checks and minor maintenance on equipment.
• Strong commitment to safety and ability to follow strict safety protocols.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and a dusty, outdoor environment.
• Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and physical.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to sit for extended periods of time while operating the crane.
• Capable of climbing ladders and stairs to access the crane cab.
• Good vision and hearing are essential for safe operation.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds occasionally.
