POSITION SUMMARY:

The Food and Market Lead oversees all aspects of the Market to ensure fiscal goals are achieved while providing a positive customer experience for staff and guests. Schedules staff and volunteers to ensure efficient operations, maintains responsibility of item pricing and register programming accuracy. Orders needed products directly with vendors and ensures area is appropriately stocked for overnight shift volumes. Evaluates item position placement and market trends modifying plan-o-grams to ensure proper product is in the Market. Plans, markets, and conducts promotions to drive Market sales and participation volumes. This position will be highly client-driven, responsive, and extremely dependable. Duties are performed independently with guidance from the food service manager. This position will interact with UW Health patients, visitors, and team members.

EDUCATION/TRAINING:

Minimum:

High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:

Associate degree in business, marketing or finance

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

Minimum:

Food Service Manager Certification and Allergen Safety Certification required within 3 months of hire

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum:

Four (4) years of gift shop or retail experience in a lead capacity

Preferred:

Six (6) years of gift shop experience in a leadership role

REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:

Program management and marketing skills. Ability to develop and refresh merchandizing plan-o-grams.

Strong customer service and collaboration skills for interacting with various departments, management, suppliers, and team members.

Good financial acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Strong conflict management and resolution skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Time and task management, prioritizing, and organizational skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) to develop and analyze financial reports.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:

Independently opens the market daily, evaluating what daily stock needs to be ordered to refresh the market after the overnight shift.

Monitors and supports market staff and volunteers to ensure customers are checked out in a timely manner, area is appropriately stocked, and foods are rotated per standards.

Analyzes inventory levels and independently works directly with vendors to order gifts and food items weekly, taking into consideration market trends and customer requests. Receives deliveries and critically evaluates quality of products and accuracy of vendor invoices resolving issues as needed directly with suppliers.

Establishes marketing plan-o-grams and evaluates sales volumes and product placement to make sure the right items are in optimal placement, that items are faced and organized to drive sales volumes and customer satisfaction. Routinely re-evaluates plan-o-grams and adjusts to market trends.

Critically reviews and reconciles daily sales reports to evaluate accuracy of inventory and remediate loss prevention. Escalates inventory variances to manager and assists with follow through on issues.

Assists with recruitment of part time staff, making hiring recommendations to manager. Directly communicates with volunteer services needs to ensure an appropriate pool of volunteers to support Market operations. Alongside leadership, interviews and selects volunteers.

Coordinates orientation and training of all area staff and volunteers. Completes annual skills validation and competency assessments of market staff. Participates in annual reviews of area staff with manager. Completes and communicates schedules for Market staff and volunteers.

Accurately programs cash register and evaluates product costs to ensure recommended retail prices are accurate to ensure sales goal targets are met. When cash is being accepted, maintains responsibility for cash handling accuracy and transport. Supports volunteers and staff with operation cash register system to ring up customers during public open hours.

Directs part time closing staff in procedures for stocking food and gifts to ensure area is appropriately stocked for overnight shift. Monitors quality and dates of food product ensuring that items are being rotated correctly and are within expiration dates. Critically evaluates product lines for effective use of floor space, researching opportunities with vendors to increase sales and transaction levels.

Consistently demonstrates knowledge of food sanitation policies to ensure safe food handling and storage and ensures Market staff and volunteers are compliant with regulatory standards.

Works with marketing to promote and participates “after hours” events to promote the Market to third shift staff and drive volumes with specials.

Maintains knowledge of all equipment in the Market to ensure cleaning and preventative maintenance processes are consistently followed. Independently contacts equipment vendors to resolve issues.

Completes work orders for equipment, independently utilizing critical thinking skills to determine when repairs need to be escalated to ensure a safe work environment for staff and that food safety standards are maintained. Communicates submitted work order status to department leadership.

Completes daily paperwork, to include refrigerator temperature logs, daily sales reports and credit card reader PCI validations. Utilizes Excel to critically evaluate and monitor sales and expenses, making changes as needed. Reports changes to manager and seeks guidance when necessary.

Conducts weekly huddles with staff and volunteers to ensure communication of current issues and practices.

Encourages customers to complete Voice of the Consumer surveys. Reviews weekly reports and status with staff in huddles. Leverages feedback to resolve issues and expand business opportunities. Coordinates staff participation in projects, leading teams to drive positive performance.

Monitors temperature compliance of all area refrigerators and freezers, independently evaluating safety of food items when refrigerators are out of range.

Independently utilizes UWHW processes and philosophies to resolve customer complaints and staff conflicts.
