About This Position
Families and Communities Rising, Inc. (FCR, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization that has provided early education and resources to families for over 50 years! FCR Head Start/Early Head Start programs are currently seeking enthusiastic and dedicated early childhood educators to join our team in locations throughout the Durham and Orange Counties. The Bilingual School Literacy Coach is responsible for supporting and enhancing early literacy and language development instruction and outcomes in a bilingual school environment. This role involves collaborating with teachers, administrators, and other instructional staff to develop and implement effective early literacy and language development strategies. Provide training and technical assistance and promote a culture of early literacy across the home, school and community. The Bilingual School Literacy Coach plays a critical role in improving young children language skills and overall literacy proficiency in both languages. Achieves and maintains certification in the LETRS® for Early Childhood Educators and Classroom Assessment Scoring System Observer (CLASS®) while ensuring that children are identified as school ready when exiting our program.
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
1. Collaborate with teachers, coaches and center directors to develop and implement effective early literacy and language development strategies that align with Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework and North Carolina Foundations for Early Learning and Development and research-based curriculum.
2. Provide ongoing professional development to enhance their understanding and implementation of early literacy and language development strategies.
3. Observe and provide constructive and reflective feedback to teachers to improve instructional strategies, differentiation techniques, and early literacy and language development assessment methods.
4. Conduct regular data analysis to monitor children progress and identify areas for intervention and individualization.
5. Assist in the development and implementation of appropriate assessment tools and strategies to evaluate early literacy and language development strategies outcomes.
6. Support the development and implementation of bilingual instructional materials, resources, and interventions to meet the needs of diverse learners.
7. Stay informed about current research, best practices, and trends in early literacy and language development strategies, particularly in bilingual and multicultural settings.
8. Foster a culture of early literacy and language development strategies throughout the home, school and community by organizing early literacy and language events, lending-library, book clubs, and other activities to promote reading and writing.
9. Communicate and collaborate with parents and families to engage them in supporting their child's early literacy and language development and providing resources for home literacy activities.
10. Maintain accurate records and documentation of coaching activities, children progress, and instructional strategies implemented.
11. Participate in professional learning communities, conferences, and workshops to enhance personal knowledge and skills in early literacy and language coaching and bilingual education.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
1. Bachelor’s degree in education or a related field. Master’s degree in education or Literacy preferred.
2. Valid teaching certification and/or literacy coaching certification.
3. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish of instruction in the school setting.
4. Demonstrated experience and expertise in literacy instruction, including reading, writing, and language development.
5. Knowledge of current research, best practices, and instructional strategies related to bilingual education and literacy development.
6. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with teachers, administrators, parents, and children.
7. Ability to analyze data and use it to inform instructional decisions and interventions.
8. Experience in providing professional development and coaching support to teachers.
9. Familiarity with diverse instructional resources, materials, and assessment tools for bilingual literacy instruction.
10. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for maintaining records and documentation.
11. Flexibility and adaptability to work in a dynamic educational environment.
12. Passion for promoting literacy and supporting children language development in a bilingual setting.
13. Preferred. Professional education/experience in early literacy and language development.
