About This Position
Job Title: Therapist
Reports To: Chief Program Officer
General Purpose: This is a Full-Time position providing mental health and counseling services to runaway homeless youth, young adults and families. The services include, but are not limited to, psychosocial assessments, crisis intervention, utilizing and understanding diagnostic criteria & screening tools, treatment planning, and individual & group therapy.
Essential Functions:
- Provide appropriate therapeutic intervention for crisis counseling services, working with youth and young adults
- Schedule individual counseling sessions with clients. Some evenings will be required for the group work (Twice a month in the evenings)
- Maintain timely and appropriate files on all residential and community clients that include both paperwork and database entry into HMIS
- Design and develop therapeutic interventions, including group, and individual counseling, to address the therapeutic needs of residential and community clients
- Engage clients in developing action plans, desired outcomes and goals
- Work as part of the On-Call rotation 5-6 times a year
- Participate as a member of an interdisciplinary team to meet the emotional, behavioral, and social needs of all clients, and assist in individual service plans. This includes, but not limited to, assisting in assessments of clients, diagnosis, service planning, discharges, and providing referrals
- Participate in internal and external program meetings, including client staffing as needed
- Represent City House at community events through education and information of services available, as needed
- Maintain licensing credentials as required, including CEU's and supervision, as well as attend required training courses
- Maintain compliance with all applicable regulatory standards/requirements including reporting for grant and funding purposes
- Report any suspicion of child abuse within a 24-hour period
- Set high standards for professional, technical, personal conduct and competence including upholding the Governing Board's Code of Ethics within each licensure. (LCSW, LMFT, LPC)
- Emphasize safety to keep employee injury to a minimum.
- Any additional responsibilities as deemed appropriate by supervisor
Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:
- Master's degree in social work, counseling or related field
- Licensed in the State of Texas as an LMSW, LCSW, LPC-Associate, LPC, LMFT-Associate or LMFT
- Minimum of three years of experience working with children, youth, and/or young adults in a therapeutic setting or related experience.
- Knowledge of issues related to youth homelessness, youth abuse/neglect, family conflict, teenage pregnancy, LGBTQ issues, life skills, child development and competency-based approach to working with youth.
- Valid driver's license and insurance.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written. Effective organizational skills. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public. Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision if necessary.
- Responsible for maintaining personal liability insurance
- Willing to complete background checks and drug screening
- This position is funded through state and federal grants and is subject to termination if funding ceases.
