Quality and Safety Manager

As a Quality and Safety Manager, you will report to the CEO, with functional reporting to the VP Production and R&D. You will apply your technical and leadership background, acquire new skills, and contribute to the success of our team in a clean and safe environment.

Position Summary

The Quality and Safety Manager is responsible for overseeing all quality assurance, quality control, and safety programs within a manufacturing facility producing flooring underlayment products. This role ensures products meet internal specifications and customer requirements while maintaining compliance with safety regulations, managing customer quality concerns, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Requirements:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Quality Management

· Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems (QMS) to ensure consistent product performance.

· Establish and maintain product specifications, testing standards, and acceptance criteria.

· Oversee testing and inspection processes for underlayment products: Color consistency, Creep resistance, as well as Density, Thickness measurements, Expansion performance and Brittleness

· Analyze test data and trends to identify quality issues and drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).

· Lead root cause analysis and implement solutions to reduce defects and variability.

· Ensure compliance with customer requirements, internal standards, and applicable industry regulations.

· Manage documentation, including SOP’s, test procedures, and quality records.

· Manage the TDS and SDS sheets for the products

· Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure readiness at all times.

Customer Quality & Communication

· Manage and respond to customer complaints in a professional and timely manner.

· Conduct thorough investigations into customer-reported issues and provide clear, data-driven responses.

· Ensure all customer concerns are documented, tracked, and resolved within established timelines.

· Collaborate with internal teams to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence.

· Maintain strong communication with customers to build trust and ensure satisfaction.

Safety Management

· Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA (PSM) and other regulatory standards.

· Conduct weekly safety walks and regular safety audits, risk assessments, and hazard analyses.

· Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

· Promote a strong safety culture through training, communication, and leadership.

· Ensure proper use of PPE and safe operation of equipment.

· Maintain records of safety incidents, training, and compliance documentation.

Leadership & Continuous Improvement

· Lead and mentor quality and safety team members.

· Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve processes and quality.

· Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.

· Monitor KPIs related to quality (scrap, rework, defects) and safety (incident rates, near misses).

· Prepare and present reports, analyses, and presentations to leadership

· Provide regular updates to leadership on performance and improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Safety, or related field (preferred).

· 5+ years of experience in Quality and Safety management in a manufacturing environment.

· Experience with foam, polymers, or building materials (preferred but not required).

· Strong understanding of quality testing methods, including physical property testing such as density, expansion, creep, brittleness. (preferred but not required).

· Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, especially Excel (data analysis, reporting) and PowerPoint (presentations).

· Proven ability to professionally handle customer complaints and deliver timely, effective resolutions.

· Knowledge of OSHA regulations and workplace safety standards.

· Experience with root cause analysis and continuous improvement tools.

· Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Certifications and Experience

· Professional certifications such as Certified Quality Manager (CQM), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), and Certified Safety Professional (CSP) are highly desirable.

· Proven experience in a Quality Assurance and Safety role in the manufacturing industry.

· OSHA 30 Certified

· First Aid/CPR Certified
