About This Position
Job Purpose:
Main Function
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of a building and the surrounding grounds. Their duties include vacuuming floors, sanitizing restroom facilities and collecting trash to ensure the building’s occupants have a clean space.
Secondary function
As the Maintenance Technician, the employee is responsible for performing diversified duties to install, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems, and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Removes unsightly trash and debris from public areas by regularly inspecting common areas for debris, transporting the trash to designated central collection points on a daily basis.
- Reduces the likelihood for the spread of diseases and unsightly appearance of trash containers in public areas by emptying, cleaning and disinfecting trash and cigarette receptacles on a regular basis.
- Assists in preventing accidents resulting from snow- or ice-covered walkways using shovels to remove snow and spread sand, chat and salt on snow- or ice-covered surfaces.
- Performs custodial services following established procedures and guidelines in buildings, offices, restrooms, etc. including their furnishings, using manual tools and powered machines if needed. This task is broken down into several duties performed throughout the day or at other regular intervals, such as:
o Clean wood, linoleum, tile, and other floors.
o Change air filters and cleaning vents.
o Dust all surfaces as needed.
o Provide cleaning supply list on a weekly basis, maintaining a thorough inventory.
o Clean outside windows/doors.
o Collect and take out trash and recycling.
o Clean microwaves, refrigerators, and vending machines.
o Clean restroom areas including but not limited to stalls, urinals, toilets, counters, mirrors, and floors.
o Clean bream room areas include but not limited to tables, chairs, and cabinets.
o Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, and soap.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
To aid with Lead Maintenance and Maintenance Manager on projects and repairs.
Requirements:Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Must have a valid motor vehicle operator's license and be insurable.
- Must be able to work overtime.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Prolonged walking or standing, and frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching on a daily basis.
- Ability to access facilities and areas which may only be accessible by climbing stairs.
- Ability to team-lift over 75 lbs.
- Ability to squat, sit, balance and rotate body.
- This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day.
- Ability to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and step stools.
- Manual dexterity to operate hand tools and power tools and handle small machine parts of equipment.
- Ability to safely use sharp cutting instruments/tools.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Ability to use feet and hands to operate tools, machinery, and vehicles
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to move throughout assigned areas, as the work is performed primarily out-of-doors, year-round.
- Required use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, etc.)
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.
