About This Position
Assistant General Counsel
Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President & Chief Legal Officer the Assistant General Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice and counsel on a wide variety of matters relating to the operation of a public health care system, including health care law and regulations, HIPAA, Stark and Anti-Kickback compliance, medical staff, licensing and certification, academic affairs, employment law, risk management and medical liability defense, contracts and public procurement, open meeting law and public records and general business relationships with government and private entities. This position will also appear and be present in front of administrative boards, and at trial and appellate courts.
Annual Salary Rate: $182,104.00 - $268,611.00
Qualifications
Education:
Education:
- Must have graduated from an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited school of law.
Experience:
- Requires a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible legal experience that demonstrates a high level of understanding of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Certification/Licensure:
- Must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona or licensed in another state and registered and licensed to practice law in Arizona within one (1) year of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Requires the ability to read, write, and speak effectively in English.
- Must be able to communicate orally in English with employees, senior leadership, the Board of Directors, clients, and the public using a telephone and in group and face-to-face, one-to-one settings.
- Requires knowledge of state and federal constitutional and statutory provisions relating to health care and public entities and a thorough understanding of the principles of civil law.
- Requires familiarity with state and federal health care laws and regulations, e.g., EMTALA, DNV, AHCCCS, HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid, nursing, medical staff, and house staff topics.
- Requires knowledge of Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), state mental health services laws and regulations, general governmental practice, legislative practice, state open meeting and public records laws, and conflict of interest laws.
- Must be a successful leader of people, have strong leadership skills, and the ability to motivate a team.
- Must be able to decide how to allocate people, time, and other resources to create, execute, and accomplish an operating or project plan on time and within budget.
- Must have solid analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to utilize the appropriate management techniques to plan, organize, control, and coordinate activities.
- Must manage priorities in a dynamic environment and adapt to change quickly and positively.
- Must demonstrate ability to be self-directed and excellent organizational, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Must be able to work as a team member with peers, other managers, staff, and senior leadership.
- Must possess good customer service and communications skills, the ability to work with professionals, and maintain confidentiality standards.
