Job Description

Description:

Community Membership Manager

Grand Rapids South Territory

Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore · $45,000–$50,000 · Salaried, Exempt

The Opportunity

Every girl who joins Girl Scouts gains skills, confidence, and a community that's with her for life. You're the person who finds her.

As Community Membership Manager for Grand Rapids South, you'll work a territory rooted in strong community identity and deep neighborhood pride. From Wyoming and Kentwood to Byron Center and Cherry Valley, this territory spans established urban communities and growing suburban corridors with real untapped potential for Girl Scout membership. You're not starting from scratch here. You're building on a foundation of warm relationships and an active volunteer network left by a long-tenured CMM who cared deeply about this territory.

This is a field sales role with a mission. You'll own your pipeline, build your schedule around results, and be held to real growth targets. If you're energized by relationship-building and closing, and you care about what happens after the close, this role was built for you.

Your Territory

Grand Rapids South covers Cherry Valley, Wyoming, Byron Center, and Kentwood — a diverse mix of urban neighborhoods and suburban communities in the southern and southwestern Grand Rapids metro. Wyoming and Kentwood are among the most ethnically and culturally diverse communities in West Michigan, with strong school systems and active faith networks. Byron Center and Cherry Valley offer growing suburban populations with high family density and established civic infrastructure.

The relationships in this territory are an asset. Your job is to activate and grow them.

What You'll Do

RECRUIT NEW MEMBERS

• Own a weekly cadence of at least 2 community recruitment events at schools, faith communities, civic organizations, and treat every event as a pipeline opportunity, not a checkbox.

• Drive prospects from first contact through membership with consistent, disciplined follow-up.

• Tell the Girl Scout story with energy and credibility to groups of every size, background, and level of familiarity with the organization.

• Build and deepen relationships with school administrators, faith leaders, and community partners who can expand your reach across all four service units.

• Coordinate with council colleagues to connect new members to troop opportunities quickly and smoothly.

DEVELOP AND SUPPORT VOLUNTEERS

• Attend and actively support Service Unit meetings, bringing energy and practical value.

• Partner with Service Unit teams to build and execute meaningful Plans of Work.

• Recruit and onboard volunteer leaders to fill key Service Unit roles, ensuring no gap goes unaddressed.

• Be the go-to resource for volunteers: answer questions, solve problems, resolve conflicts, and keep leaders confident in their roles.

PROTECT AND GROW RETENTION

• Track membership data with intention — spot trends, identify at-risk members, and move proactively.

• Lead renewal outreach through calls, emails, and direct follow-up well before memberships lapse.

• Support troop leaders in creating experiences that keep girls and families coming back.

• Partner with internal teams to remove structural barriers to participation.

MANAGE YOUR TERRITORY LIKE A BUSINESS

• Keep clean, current records of all activity, contacts, and outcomes in council systems.

• Own your membership metrics: girl registrations, total membership, and retention rates.

• Participate in Membership Kick-Off and annual Service Unit planning cycles with full preparation and follow-through.

• Respond promptly to inquiries, new registrations, and lapsed member outreach — urgency matters.

What You Bring

• A documented track record of hitting goals in sales, recruitment, fundraising, or account management. We want to see results, not just effort.

• The social confidence to walk into any room cold, build rapport fast, and leave with a commitment.

• Strong presentation skills and the discipline to manage your own schedule, priorities, and outcomes without daily direction.

• Genuine comfort working across diverse communities, cultures, and socioeconomic backgrounds. This territory's strength is its diversity. That has to be yours too.

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of lived and professional experience.

• Existing roots or relationships in Wyoming, Kentwood, Byron Center, or Cherry Valley are a meaningful advantage.

• Experience with youth organizations, volunteer management, or STEM programming is a plus.

What Success Looks Like

In this role, success isn't ambiguous. You'll know you're winning when:

• New girl membership is growing consistently across all four service units, not just in strong months.

• Retention rates are trending up because girls and families are engaged, not just enrolled.

• Your Service Units are fully staffed with confident, supported volunteer leaders.

• Your pipeline is active, your follow-up is disciplined, and your recruitment calendar is full.

• Council leaders see your territory as a model for how this role is done.

Practical Details

Salary: $45,000 to $50,000 · Salaried, Exempt

• Location: Home-based within the territory (Kent County preferred). Regular travel throughout all four service units required.

• One in-office day per week at the Girl Scout DreamLab, Grand Rapids is expected.

• Regular evenings and occasional weekends are part of this role. That's not an exception; it's the job.

• Reliable personal transportation and a valid driver's license are required.
