You will take ownership of gameplay animation features, collaborating closely with designers, programmers, producers, and other animators to ensure animations align with both gameplay mechanics and cinematic vision. The position requires hands-on expertise with keyframe and motion capture animation, as well as integrating and troubleshooting animations within a game engine. You will iterate on your work based on playtesting and feedback, contributing directly to player experience and game quality. This role is ideal for a creative, self-motivated animator who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced setting and wants to shape the animation standards of engaging and challenging games. Candidates must be Ontario residents or willing to relocate.

Accountabilities:
  • Create polished gameplay and cinematic animations using keyframe and motion capture techniques.
  • Integrate animations into the game engine, troubleshoot issues, and ensure seamless interaction with animation state machines and overall project quality standards.
  • Iterate animations based on playtesting, team reviews, and performance metrics to optimize player experience.
  • Collaborate closely with animation, design, programming, and production teams to meet deadlines and achieve game vision.
  • Contribute to developing, maintaining, and improving the animation department’s processes and pipelines.
  • Mentor junior animators and help uphold high-quality animation practices across projects.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of professional gameplay animation experience, ideally for PC and console titles.
  • Strong background in third-person animation; experience in first-person shooters or hack-and-slash games is a plus.
  • Proficiency with MotionBuilder and Maya for character animation workflows.
  • Solid understanding of body dynamics and realistic human hand keyframe animation.
  • Experience with motion capture data and integrating it into animation pipelines.
  • Familiarity with game engines and animation state machines, preferably Unreal Engine 4 or above.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with self-motivation and initiative to research and self-educate.
  • Submission of an animation reel demonstrating relevant, high-level skills.
  • Willingness to complete a paid animation test if requested.
  • Bonus: cinematic/scripted events animation, rigging, scripting, or pipeline experience.
Benefits:
  • Salary range of $90,000 – $120,000 CAD per year, with growth potential based on expertise and mastery.
  • 6.5 weeks paid vacation and unlimited sick days.
  • Eligibility for game performance bonuses.
  • Flexible work schedule and location: remote, hybrid, or on-site.
  • Comprehensive healthcare and benefits for employees and families.
  • 100% parental leave top-up for 16 weeks for Canadian employees.
