Physician Assistant – Ophthalmology

Valhalla, NY

Summary:

We are seeking an experienced, motivated and highly collaborative Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Ophthalmology service in a dynamic new role that combines inpatient care and operating room support. This is an excellent opportunity for a PA who thrives in a fast-paced surgical environment, values teamwork in an academic setting, and is committed to delivering high-quality patient care across the continuum.

In this role, the PA will work closely with ophthalmology surgeons and hospital-based teams to provide high-level inpatient care, perioperative support, and first-assist coverage for ophthalmologic procedures. This position is integral to maintaining timely consultation, efficient surgical coordination, and excellent patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluation and management of inpatient ophthalmology consultations and follow-ups
  • Assist with pre-op and post-op management
  • Independently evaluate and triage patients
  • Function as a first assist in the OR for ophthalmologic procedures
  • Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, anesthesia, and consulting services.
  • Support care coordination, patient flow, and documentation

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be NCCPA certified and possess or be eligible to obtain an active applicable New York State license.
  • Ideal candidates will have prior ophthalmology, surgical subspecialty, inpatient consults, or OR 1st Assist experience, although highly motivated new graduates will be considered and are encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates must possess excellent communication skills, strong clinical judgment, and demonstrate an ability to work effectively in a high-acuity environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.
