Position Summary:
The Trucking Manager provides strategic leadership and oversight for all company-owned and leased trucking operations in support of Grayson Carter and Son’s construction, materials, and project delivery needs. This role is responsible for setting operational direction, establishing performance standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and optimizing trucking efficiency, cost control, and service reliability across the organization. The Trucking Manager works closely with executive leadership, accounting, operations, safety, and external lease hauler partners to align trucking operations with companywide goals. This position focuses on financial accountability, process improvement, and risk management while ensuring the trucking organization operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations.
Key Responsibilities:Strategic Leadership & Operational Oversight:- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for company-owned and leased trucking operations.
- Establish operational goals, performance metrics, and service standards aligned with company objectives.
- Oversee dispatching, scheduling, fleet utilization, and capacity planning to support projects, plants, and quarry operations.
- Ensure trucking operations consistently meet production schedules, delivery timelines, and customer expectations.
- Partner with senior leadership to support long-term planning, growth initiatives, and capital investment decisions related to trucking assets.
- Oversee trucking-related cost controls, including fuel usage, fleet utilization, maintenance costs, and lease hauler expenses.
- Review operational and financial reports to analyze performance, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with Accounting to ensure accurate tracking, reporting, and reconciliation of trucking costs and lease hauler payments.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost-efficiency initiatives across trucking operations.
- Provide executive oversight of lease hauler relationships, agreements, and performance expectations.
- Ensure systems and controls are in place for accurate ticket processing, documentation, and audit readiness.
- Review high-level production, utilization, and payment reports to ensure accuracy and alignment with contractual terms.
- Serve as a senior point of contact for resolving escalated lease hauler, billing, or operational issues.
- Promote strong partnerships with external hauling companies while maintaining accountability and performance standards.
- Ensure all trucking operations comply with DOT, OSHA, FMCSA, and company safety policies.
- Provide leadership support to safety initiatives, audits, inspections, and corrective action plans.
- Ensure effective training programs are in place for drivers and supervisory staff.
- Monitor regulatory changes and ensure policies, procedures, and systems remain compliant.
- Promote a strong safety culture across all trucking operations.
- Lead, mentor, and develop trucking management and supervisory staff.
- Ensure clear communication of company policies, expectations, and performance standards.
- Partner with HR and Operations leadership on workforce planning, training, performance management, and disciplinary matters.
- Foster collaboration between trucking, field operations, maintenance, accounting, and project teams.
- Evaluate dispatching, ticketing, reporting, and communication workflows to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Champion implementation of technology solutions related to dispatch, GPS tracking, ticket processing, and reporting.
- Drive standardization of processes and documentation across trucking operations.
- Ensure data accuracy, visibility, and accountability in operational and financial reporting.
Job Qualifications/Requirements:
- Extensive experience in trucking, transportation, construction, or heavy equipment operations, preferably in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, OSHA regulations, and fleet compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated experience with budgeting, cost control, and operational reporting.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage and develop managers and supervisors.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, dispatch systems, GPS tracking, and operational reporting tools.
- Knowledge of materials hauling, including dirt, rock, asphalt, sand, and aggregates.
- Valid CDL preferred.
- Ability to obtain Arsenal and FBI Badge.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as operational needs require.
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening.
