As our Senior Logistics Manager, you’ll be responsible for overseeing inbound and outbound shipments, managing carrier relationships, and ensuring materials and products move efficiently through our operation. You’ll lead a team, set clear expectations, and hold people accountable. Your work will directly impact the flow of goods and help keep our manufacturing and distribution operations running smoothly at our Indianapolis location.

Job Summary:

The Senior Logistics Manager manages all aspects of the logistics function to efficiently and cost-effectively support organizational operations. Maintaining a safe work environment, accomplishes department objectives by supervising staff, setting goals, and developing personal growth opportunities.

Shift: Monday-Friday, 7:00am to 4:00pm

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all employees are following and adhering to the GMP & Safety policies of the Company.
  • Supervise Logistics staff including managing time off requests, timecards and backing up duties of team members as necessary.
  • Handle discipline of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Conduct training of new staff.
  • Ensure that all direct reports have completed required ISO training.
  • Lead personnel in their daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
  • Produce, conduct, and participate in performance reviews and goal setting for supervised employees.
  • Conduct annual employee evaluations

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Oversee outbound and inbound shipping processes.
  • Ensure all freight shipments meet customer due dates and delivery windows.
  • Update freight analysis spreadsheet and shipping analysis spreadsheet and communicate summary to all team members during monthly huddle.
  • Schedule all outgoing freight shipments including LTL and full truck load shipments to customers.
  • Schedule incoming shipments as needed and requested by team members.
  • Receive and coordinate all daily tracking information and provide to appropriate team member.
  • Analyze freight expense based on both cost and transit times prior to booking both outbound and inbound shipments.
  • Investigate errors and damages, conduct root cause analysis, develop corrective action plans, and file claims for shipping cost reimbursement when necessary.
  • Utilize Data Ninja to invoice all orders shipped by freight daily.
  • Utilize EDI services including SPS Commerce to request pick-ups, complete advanced shipping notices and print any shipping documents needed for specific customers.
  • Utilize customer specific TMS portal to set-up shipments.
  • Assist in the picking and packing as needed of all freight shipments to ensure orders are complete and accurate.
  • Verify picked freight order to ensure accuracy.
  • Coordinate and schedule all trade show shipments.
  • Assist Sales department with preparation and packing of shipping containers for trade shows.
  • Assist Inventory Manager in cycle counts as requested.
  • Handle all aspects of Amazon and small pack shipments, including coordination, issue resolution, and invoicing of outbound Amazon orders.
  • Track and report on-time delivery performance for Amazon and small pack shipments.
  • Initiate and/or update standard operating procedures, in conjunction with other team members, to assure that all current procedures of the department are documented as fully as possible.
  • Meet with outside vendors as needed to assess and improve costs of the department.
  • Review the weekly priority report, communicate backorder and production status updates to all direct reports, and provide detailed feedback on all LTL shipments for the current month.
  • Effectively communicate with customers and vendors through all forms of contact to ensure complete customer satisfaction and professional representation of the company and brand image.
  • Work with fellow team members to maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Assist immediate supervisor with projects upon request.
  • Organize, allocate and manage all LTL shipments.
  • Attend and participate in Operations huddle.
  • Track on-time delivery for all freight shipments, investigate any delays, identify root causes, and report findings via email to the Plant Manager and Chief Operations Officer.
  • Send cost savings summary to Senior Warehouse Manager & Chief Operations Officer.
  • Reconcile all staging bins.
  • Participate in year-end inventory.
  • Participate in goal setting and performance evaluation with supervisor.
  • Lead the budget process for Logistics.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; an associate degree with significant logistics experience will also be considered.
  • Valid state motor vehicle operators license for forklift truck.
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a manufacturing or warehouse environment, with a strong focus on logistics, including shipping, receiving, and freight coordination.
  • Prior supervisory experience required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, walk, stand, lift, push and pull various items.
  • Ability to move around the warehouse.

Work Environment:

  • Work is primarily performed inside the warehouse.
  • Exposure to loud noise levels, vibration, chemicals, dust, mechanical hazards, and moving objects or other vehicles.
  • May be exposed to cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions.
