The Accounting Manager at Commercial Mechanical is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, strong internal controls, and compliance with applicable accounting standards and regulations. This role manages AP/AR, supports month-end and year-end close processes, processes weekly payroll, and provides financial insight to support management decision-making and organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities· Oversee accounts payable processes, including vendor setup, purchase orders, invoice review, payment processing, and expense management.
· Oversee accounts receivable activities, including collections, cash application, and customer account reconciliations.
· Maintain the general ledger, ensuring accurate classification of transactions and timely posting of journal entries, and oversee the preparation and review of balance sheet reconciliations.
· Oversee weekly payroll processing and related filings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
· Perform and review bank, credit card, and balance sheet reconciliations on a regular basis.
· Supervise and manage the day-to-day work of accounting staff, including task assignment and workload prioritization.
· Mentor and develop AP/AR team members through coaching, training, and ongoing support.
· Review staff work for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to accounting policies and procedures.
· Conduct performance evaluations and support professional growth and career development.
· Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local reporting and tax requirements.
· Support management with financial analysis, ad hoc reporting, and special projects as needed.
· Assist in evaluating, implementing, and improving accounting systems and software to support organizational growth and scalability.
Requirements: Preferred Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field or equivalent combination of education and relevant accounting experience.· 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience, including supervisory or management responsibility.· Strong working knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.· Experience working month end and yearend close processes.· Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems; experience evaluating or implementing systems is a plus. Experience with Great Plans, Sage Intacct a plus. · Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables, formulas, and financial analysis.· Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.· Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and lead a team in a fast-paced environment.· Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
