Fire Alarm Project Superintendent
Job Description
The Fire Alarm Project Superintendent is responsible for the supervision, scheduling, and coordination of all aspects of the fire alarm system.
Job Specific Responsibilities
Have expert knowledge of job-specific construction documents which include drawings, specification, GC schedules, MEI schedules and estimates.
As the company representative in the field, you must ensure that all team members uphold the key values and responsibilities of MEI.
Coordinate fire alarm installations with all other trades on the project.
Maintain schedule provided by project manager. Report issues to PM immediately if time schedules are not being met.
Be a problem-solver who has solutions to issues before they are presented.
Responsible for material procurement beyond that of the initial buy-out.
Communicate instructions and answers to questions clearly and concisely to team members.
Determine proper discipline for each situation and fill out discipline sheets as necessary.
Train team members on specific tasks to meet MEI installation standards and work in place target counts.
Layout and install all fire alarm components including conduit, boxes, supports, wiring, cabinets, and devices.
Ensure proper tools and materials are being used at all times.
Ensure safe work practices and conduct weekly safety meetings. Turn safety sheets into PM and GC weekly. Report any incidents immediately to PM.
Ensure that no work is completed that is outside of MEI’s or our subcontractors scope of work.
Responsible for daily planning sheets and ensuring that all tasks are prioritized ensuring that the correct team member is on the right task, every time.
Ensure that manpower, tools, equipment and materials are being utilized to their full extent.
Conduct quality control inspections on all installations and takes appropriate action if necessary to remedy quality concerns.
Maintain a can-do, positive attitude, never telling the customer “no” and ensure all team members do the same. 100% customer satisfaction is our goal which leads to repeat business.
Must attend weekly subcontractor meeting with the GC.
Keep punch list items to an absolute minimum and eliminate loose ends.
Update as-built drawings daily or on an as-needed basis.
Verify all fire alarm devices have been properly tested and are functioning as designed.
Expert level knowledge of the NEC, OSHA, Fire Alarm code, building codes as well as local jurisdiction amendments.
Meet with electrical and fire alarm inspectors and resolve any issues with a “same team” attitude.
Qualifications Required
Self-motivated and detail orientated.
Must have current Denver Fire Alarm Installers license (blue card)
Must have conduit bending skills
Working knowledge of Notifier, EST, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Siemens fire alarm systems
Expert level knowledge of fire alarm systems including testing, troubleshooting, and inspection protocol.
Possess a Colorado State Journeyman Electrician’s license.
NICET Level II or ability to obtain within time period mutually agreed upon
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work in a fast-paced environment.
Reliable transportation, current driver’s license, and high school diploma or equivalent.
Respond to overtime requirements with short notice.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
Must be able to stand in an upright position for an extended period of time.
Must be able to bend legs at the knee and come to rest on knee or knees.
Climb ladders of all types including A-frames and extension ladders.
The employee’s body weight and tools cannot exceed weight limit of ladders or lifts.
Perform work at various heights up to 50’ from ladders, scaffolds or lifts.
Able to work 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week with overtime as required.
Working Conditions
Must have the ability to complete work tasks in varying temperatures with exposure to heat, cold, wet, snowy and windy conditions.
Must be able to use on-site restrooms.
Work environment may be loud, congested, dusty, and/or in confined spaces.
