Role Overview
BuildNow, in partnership with ForgeNow, is seeking a Data Center Operations Instructor with operational data center mechanical and electrical systems expertise to serve as an Instructor for the Data Center Operations Track.This role is ideal for experienced technicians, operators, or engineers who are ready to transition into instruction, training students to safely operate, monitor, and respond to issues within mission-critical environments.The instructor will focus on mechanical infrastructure systems and casualty response, preparing students to perform roles in mission-critical data center operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver instructor-led training using established curriculum and lesson plans
  • Teach mechanical systems including HVAC, chilled water, cooling systems, and supporting infrastructure
  • Teach electrical systems including generators, UPS units, switchgear panels, power distribution units, and supporting infrastructure in a lab environment
  • Deliver clear, hands‑on instruction on datacenter hardware lifecycles, including deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and end‑of‑life processes in a lab environment
  • Instruct students on data center operations, monitoring, and incident (casualty) response procedures
  • Reinforce safe operating practices and adherence to established procedures and checklists
  • Comfortable with hands-on (lab) training as well as theory
  • Maintain classroom discipline, instructional flow, and professional standards
  • Track and report student attendance, participation, and performance
  • Enforce testing integrity and adherence to school policies
  • Manage, inspect, and maintain lab equipment and training aids
  • Provide real-world examples from data center or mission-critical operations environments
  • Identify curriculum gaps and provide feedback for continuous improvement
  • Communicate material, supply, and equipment needs proactively
  • Model professionalism, accountability, and operational discipline
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Qualifications:
Required Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in data center operations, facilities, or mechanical systems
  • Hands-on experience with cooling systems, HVAC, chilled water plants, or similar infrastructure
  • Hands-on experience with generators, UPS units, switchgear panels, power distribution units, and supporting infrastructure
  • Experience with incident response, troubleshooting, or emergency procedures in mission-critical environments
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to instruct, mentor, or train others
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and basic digital tools

Preferred Experience
  • Experience in mission-critical facilities (data centers, hospitals, industrial plants, or military systems)
  • Familiarity with BMS/DCIM systems and operational monitoring tools
  • Military background a plus

Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Technical training or certifications in mechanical systems (preferred)

Certifications (Required or obtained within 30 days)
  • OSHA 30
  • CPR / First Aid
  • Relevant mechanical or facilities certifications (preferred)

Schedule & Work Environment
  • Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • In-person instruction and lab environment
  • Dallas / Fort Worth area
