Job Title: Medication Call Center Specialist

Job Summary:
The Medication Call Center Specialist is responsible for handling inbound and outbound calls related to patient medication needs within a medical office. This role supports providers, pharmacists, and patients by ensuring accurate processing of prescription requests, medication refills, prior authorizations, and general medication inquiries while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Answer high-volume inbound calls from patients regarding medication questions, refill requests, and prescription status
  • Process medication refill requests and route them to appropriate providers for approval
  • Communicate with pharmacies to verify prescriptions, resolve issues, and ensure timely dispensing
  • Assist with prior authorizations by gathering necessary documentation and coordinating with insurance companies
  • Document all patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system
  • Provide clear instructions to patients regarding medication usage, as directed by providers
  • Identify urgent medication-related concerns and escalate appropriately
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Follow established workflows, call scripts, and quality standards

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience in a call center, healthcare setting, or pharmacy preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications
  • Familiarity with EHR systems and basic computer skills
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with prior authorizations and insurance processes
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills

Work Environment:

  • Office-based call center setting
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and phone/computer use
