About This Position

Software Engineer/Developer

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Software Engineer/Developer in the United States.

This role sits at the intersection of advanced software engineering and cutting-edge research in natural language processing and large language models applied to aerospace and national airspace systems. You will contribute to mission-critical initiatives aimed at improving the efficiency, safety, and automation of the National Airspace System through data-driven innovation. Working in a multidisciplinary environment, you will design, develop, and prototype AI/NLP solutions that extract and structure operational aviation data from complex legacy documents and real-time communications. Your work will directly support modernization efforts such as digitizing airspace constraints and automating aviation notices for proactive decision-making. This is a highly collaborative and research-oriented role where engineering excellence meets real-world national impact. You will also engage with stakeholders, contribute to technical publications, and help shape the future of intelligent aerospace systems.

Accountabilities:

In this role, you will design, develop, and prototype advanced software and AI/NLP solutions that support modernization of national airspace systems and aviation data workflows. You will work across research and engineering teams to translate complex aviation data challenges into scalable technical solutions.

  • Develop and prototype NLP and machine learning models to extract, structure, and interpret aviation-related data from unstructured sources.
  • Build and refine large language model (LLM) solutions for tasks such as classification, summarization, and information extraction.
  • Support digitization of aviation documents, including SOPs, LOAs, and NOTAMs, into structured and standardized formats.
  • Design and implement automation solutions for operational aviation data processing and post-operational analysis.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure software aligns with research goals, project timelines, and quality standards.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, project reports, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies.
  • Participate in knowledge sharing through peer-reviewed publications and presentations at industry or academic conferences.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers when needed, fostering team growth and collaboration.
  • Stay current with emerging AI, NLP, and software engineering practices to continuously improve system performance and innovation.
Requirements:

The ideal candidate is an experienced software engineer with strong expertise in NLP, machine learning, and full-stack development, comfortable working in research-driven, mission-focused environments. You should be highly analytical, independent, and capable of solving complex technical challenges with minimal supervision.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience in NLP, natural language understanding, or machine learning research and prototyping.
  • Strong experience working with large language models (LLMs) and applied AI systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Python, Java, JavaScript, and Go.
  • Experience with software development tools and workflows such as Git, Jenkins, Jira, and Confluence.
  • Strong understanding of data processing, model development, and system integration.
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and collaboration skills in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in team environments.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident.
  • Preferred: Experience with aerospace, aviation systems, or national airspace research programs.
  • Preferred: Experience leading small technical teams or mentoring engineers.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary range: $105,100 – $164,125 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance.
  • Retirement and financial programs including 401(k) and additional financial well-being support.
  • Paid time off, holidays, and flexible work-life balance programs.
  • Professional development opportunities, including training, tuition assistance, and certifications.
  • Employee recognition programs and performance-based rewards.
  • Opportunity to work on high-impact national-level research and innovation projects.
  • Collaborative and mission-driven work environment focused on scientific and technical excellence.
