About This Position
Position Summary
The Paralegal supports SERJobs’ Immigration Assistance Program. This position provides direct immigration-related support services to low-income and immigrant communities, assists the DOJ-Accredited Representative with case preparation and documentation, and ensures program activities align with grant objectives, compliance standards, and reporting requirements.
Essential Functions and Key Accountabilities
Client Services and Case Support
• Conduct client intake, eligibility screening, and document collection for immigration services.
• Assist with preparation and completion of immigration forms and supporting documentation under supervision of a DOJ-Accredited Representative.
• Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential client case files within the case management system.
• Provide bilingual (English/Spanish) interpretation and translation for clients, workshops, and staff as needed.
Program Delivery and Outreach
• Support immigration workshops, information sessions, and community outreach events.
• Greet and assist clients and volunteers during in-office and community-based service activities.
• Coordinate with community partners, referral agencies, and faith-based organizations to support client access and referrals.
Grant Compliance and Reporting
• Support program documentation required, including service tracking, outputs, and outcomes.
• Ensure all activities, expenditures, and time allocation align strictly with the Immigration Assistance Program purpose.
• Assist Program Coordinator with data collection for formative and summative grant reports.
• Maintain organized records to support audits, monitoring, and evaluation requirements.
Administrative and Program Support
• Provide administrative support including scheduling, filing, correspondence, and document preparation.
• Assist with supply and material requests in accordance with the approved grant budget.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and required committees.
• Stay current on changes to immigration law, regulations, and best practices.
Qualifications:
Education and Certification
• Associate Degree or Paralegal Certificate required.
• Immigration law training required.
Experience
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with immigrant communities or in legal/immigration support services.
• Experience supporting workshops, community education, or client-facing services preferred.
Skills and Competencies
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.
• Strong organizational, documentation, and case management skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and electronic case management systems.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple priorities.
