Job Overview:
GrizzlyTrek is currently seeking one Commissioning Completions Coordinator to join our Valued Clients team on-site at a major industrial construction project in Edmonton.
Under the direction of the CSU Manager, the CSU Coordinator plans, coordinates, and executes all integrated Commissioning & Startup (CSU) activities to ensure the safe, efficient, and controlled validation and startup of facility systems.
This role safeguards personnel, assets, and the environment while ensuring alignment across Project, Engineering, Construction, Preservation, Pre-Commissioning, Commissioning, and Startup strategies. The CSU Coordinator supervises commissioning discipline technicians, vendors, and contractors and plays a key leadership role in field execution.
Key Responsibilities1. Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE)Adhere to all site-specific safety directives, standards, policies, and procedures; ensure full team compliance.
Complete and maintain all required safety training.
Act as a Safety Ambassador and proactive safety leader.
Participate in:
Site safety drills
Toolbox talks
Safety meetings
Regular site inspections
Ensure all incidents and near-misses are:
Promptly reported
Investigated
Corrective actions implemented to prevent recurrence
Monitor and close corrective safety actions to eliminate repeat hazards.
Implement and communicate risk assessment processes, including:
Job Safety Assessments (JSAs)
Risk Reviews
Health Hazard Assessments
Ensure safe work practices during commissioning and startup activities including:
Confined space entry
Fall protection
Work permitting
Gas testing
System cleaning
Understand and integrate:
HAZOP processes
Process Safety Management (PSM)
Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR)
Coordinate and execute all integrated commissioning and startup activities in accordance with the Commissioning Execution Plan.
Collaborate with Project, Engineering, Construction, Quality, Procurement, and Operations teams from project initiation through operations stabilization.
Serve as an active member of the integrated field leadership team.
Plan and prepare equipment and systems for first-time startup.
Collect and consolidate daily progress reports for submission to the CSU Manager.
Understand and manage the completions process, including:
System scoping and prioritization
Inspections and system walkdowns
Punchlist management and mitigation plans
Test records and documentation under the CMS Plan
Develop, review, and edit:
Commissioning Plans
Site Work Instruction Manuals (SWIMs)
CSU Procedures
Interpret and work from:
P&IDs
Isometrics
Single Line Diagrams (SLDs)
Loop diagrams
Track and manage red-line updates.
Identify, schedule, and manage vendors and contractors on-site.
Ensure all CSU documentation is properly collected, filed, and archived.
Develop working knowledge of plant systems including:
Electrical
Mechanical
Piping
Controls and instrumentation
Automation systems
Act as a process subject matter expert and mentor to the project team.
Lead deficiency mitigation efforts, including direction of “Tiger Team” activities.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Monitor and report real-time commissioning progress.
Develop and implement mitigation plans with the CSU Manager to recover schedule delays.
Identify schedule conflicts and system priority impacts.
Align commissioning activities with time-phased budgets.
Understand and manage technical performance, schedule, and budget parameters.
One of the following is required:
Power Engineer (minimum 3rd Class)
Journeyman Interprovincial Red Seal
Process Technician/Technologist
Professional Process Engineer
Equivalent industry experience
Required Safety Certifications:
CSTS-20 (Construction Safety Training System)
Basic Scaffold Safety
Fall Protection
Confined Space Entry & Monitoring
WHMIS
H2S Alive
Minimum 10 years industrial experience
Minimum 5 years leading commissioning and startup activities
Experience in commissioning/startup of:
Industrial gas facilities
Power generation
Chemical processing
Cryogenic systems
Air separation
Syngas
CO₂ capture (preferred)
Strong mechanical background with experience in:
Pumps
Compressors
Exchangers
Boilers
Turbines
Piping systems
Strong understanding of:
Pressure vessels and relief devices
Safe pressure piping operation
Refrigeration, gases, and distillation
Experience working under major industrial safety and environmental compliance frameworks.
