About This Position
Job Summary: Responsible for assisting the Plant Pathology program in diverse tasks under the supervision of Plant Pathologist including sowing, transplanting, taking care of plants, assisting with experiments, disposal of plants in the growth chamber and greenhouse. Will also be responsible for ensuring greenhouse and laboratory tasks are performed within a reasonable time. Support program as needed with routine activities in laboratory and green house.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for greenhouse and growth chamber activities including, but are not limited to, pot washing, cleaning and sanitizing, filling pots with growth substrate, sowing seed, tending and transplanting plants.
- Responsible for greenhouse and headhouse housekeeping duties that include cleaning, sanitizing and maintenance of facilities/equipment, pest control and weeding.
- Assist with laboratory activities in the preparation of growth media and culture of plant pathogens.
- Responsible for general maintenance in the Plant Pathology greenhouse, growth chamber and laboratories, collection and disposal of plant and plant pathogen materials.
- Assist with experiments in growth chambers, greenhouse and field trials.
- Responsible for performing and coordinating regular maintenance, including the proper control and timely repair of departmental equipment, general housekeeping, and routine clean-up of the pathology facilities.
- Communicates any problems in greenhouses to the manager. Such problems may include irrigation malfunctions, identify stressed/diseased plants, or forecasting planting needs.
- Assist with other programs at manager’s discretion.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education And Experience:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED), associate degree preferred
- Laboratory experience preferred
- Agriculture experience preferred
- Certificates, licenses and registrations required: Washington State Drives License
- Computer skills/ required: Microsoft Office Suite
- Other skills required: Fluent in English
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License and maintain insurability according to underwriting criteria
