About This Position

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Maintenance Mechanic Engineer

DEPARTMENT: Engineering

REPORTS TO: Director of Engineering

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

1. Reading, writing and oral proficiency in the English language.

2. Four (4) years technical training and field experience as a mechanic.

3. Some background with laundry, HVAC and Kitchen Equipment.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

The ability to follow proper payroll and uniform procedures.

The ability to provide service and repairs as outlined in the Technical Skills List, depending on grade level, for electrical, plumbing, steam, gas, fire & safety, HVAC, refrigeration, interior, paint and decorating problems.

The ability to lubricate machinery on a regular basis.

The ability to provide machinist work to all equipment such as replacing and repairing bearings, gears, belts, shafts, control mechanism, etc.

The ability to always conduct oneself in a professional manner reflects the high standards of The Pierre, a Taj Hotel.

The ability to ensure a clean, neat and organized work area.

The ability to maintain a good working relationship with other employees.

The ability to handle and report any accident immediately, no matter how minor.

The ability to respond properly in any hotel emergency or safety situation.

The ability to perform other tasks or projects assigned by hotel management and staff.

The ability to maintain and re-lamp all lamps in the hotel, including socket repair and replacement.

The ability to install electrical wiring for renovations, electrical outlet additions, motors and associated equipment.

The ability to provide preventive maintenance of all electrical equipment and updating of appropriate logs.

The ability to clean all stations in Engineering and maintain a neat and organized department.

The ability to adjust and clean televisions.

The ability to respond to all guest complaints regarding the maintenance of their room or public areas in a timely manner.

The ability to perform preventive maintenance in guest rooms and public areas.

The ability to assist on all plumbing stoppages in the building.

The ability to repair an assortment of items brought to the shop by other departments.

The ability to clean grease traps, filters and drains as necessary.

The ability to assemble desks, shelving, cabinets, etc. assigned.

The ability to assist engineers on major shutdowns for repairs.

The ability to assist guests with special requests such as opening luggage when keys are lost.

The ability to maintain logs for all work performed while on duty.

The ability to install or relocate any addition or existing equipment when necessary.

The ability to treat urinals with de-liming solution.

The ability to take meter readings, record temperatures and pressures in heating and cooling plant.

The ability to check all mechanical rooms.

The ability to clean gas burners and charcoal burners.

The ability to clean fixtures and shades.

The ability to unplug toilets and change out valves and valve seats.

The ability to respond to work orders or room inspection reports submitted by Department Heads.

The ability to respond to all emergency conditions such as fires, power failures, etc.

The ability to maintain a good working relationship with other employees, providing instruction and encouragement as needed.

The ability to ensure a clean, neat and organized work area.

The ability to handle and report any accident immediately, no matter how minor.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS ANALYSIS:

* Engineers must have excellent flexibility for moving in and out of all positions

-leaning on ladder while overhead reaching

-kneeling, half-kneeling, hands/knees

-side sitting, long-sitting

-belly crawling, crawling through holes and small openings

-crawling over and under pipes

-overhead, forward, and lateral reach

-midline crossing

-hook grip, spherical grip, and prehension

-lifting floor to overhead

-carrying

-pushing/pulling

Forces:

Tool belts: 15 lbs.

Bags of rock salt: 50 lbs.

Televisions: 45 lbs.

Chemical drums: 100 lbs.

Motors: 5 lbs. to 120 lbs.

Lint bag: 15 lbs.

1/2 lb. to 30 lb. force required to turn various types of valves in the boiler room

Other items unweighted:

- ladders

- tools

- pipe

Repetitions:

* Tool belts are worn for a full shift.

* 50 lb. bags of rock salt are carried by one person upstairs 5 x shift every day for a week at a time. Total: 98 bags per month

* Televisions are lifted to carts on an as needed basis

* Chemical drums are lifted from ground to cart to ground about 1 x month

* Lint bag is lifted out of tub of water from squat position 1 x day and replaced with clean bag

* Stair climbing: 20-30 steps between flights. Stair climbing takes place several times an hour and is unavoidable

* Standing and walking is essential all day

Environment: * Must be able to tolerate vibration of hand tools

* Must be able to tolerate inclement, cold, and very warm environmental temperatures

* Must be able to withstand 30 m.p.h. winds while working in air ducts

* Must handle chlorine, acids, and caustics (protective gear is provided)

* Must have excellent balance for ladder climbing, standing on round structures such as the boiler (when adjusting overhead valves)

* Must be able to tolerate noisy machinery, air compressors, motors, very frequently

Sensory:

* Sight, hearing, balance needed to analyze problems, make repairs, safety purposes

* Good sensation is also needed as engineers often work
