SUNY Maritime College seeks to hire a full-time Graphic Designer to join its Office for Marketing and Communications. Reporting directly to the Director of Marketing and Communications and working with various departments throughout the campus community, the Graphic Designer will be responsible for; creating print, digital and web content in support of all campus-wide marketing campaigns, while also supporting the office of Institutional Advancement with special events and fundraising functions. This creative work will include presentations, newsletters, promotional materials and web ads/banners.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan, design, and produce complex graphic materials for print and digital use, including brochures, newsletters, posters, signage, displays, charts, maps, diagrams, and promotional content
- Lead creative direction and develop initial concepts for graphic design projects
- Create original designs, graphics, layouts, and multimedia content for web, electronic, and marketing platforms using industry-standard tools
- Ensure quality control, brand consistency, and timely updates across all print and web-based materials
- Optimize images and layouts to support and enhance the campus website and intranet
- Consult and collaborate with department staff and design team members to plan and deliver effective visual communications, including support for photo and video shoots
- Maintain electronic image libraries and archives of graphic design assets and publications
- Prepare print specifications and cost estimates; research vendors and pricing to ensure accurate production costs.
- Stay current on graphic design trends and recommend appropriate software, hardware, and tools
- Demonstrated experience working within established brand guidelines; detail- and deadline-oriented, proactive, collaborative, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design or a related field
- Three to five years of professional graphic design experience, including planning, creating, producing, and organizing print and digital content
- Strong project management skills with strict attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Proficiency with industry-standard design tools, including Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, and Dreamweaver)
- Work Samples: Applicants must include at least two recent samples of work created for both print and web
- Demonstrated experience with image optimization techniques for print and web
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to translate verbal and written direction into effective design solutions
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows applications
- Ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment
Additional Information:
Classification/Salary Range: The Graphic Designer is a full-time calendar year UUP unclassified position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $65,000 - $75,000 annually with an outstanding benefits package (for additional information, please see the UUP-FT-Benefits-at-a-Glance.pdf). Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Review of applications to commence immediately and conclude when the position is filled.
Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
