Overview
The Director of Power is responsible for leading utility coordination and power infrastructure delivery for data center development projects. Acting as a technical lead and owner’s representative, this role works directly with utilities, transmission operators, engineers, and project teams to support the delivery of reliable electrical infrastructure for hyperscale and mission critical facilities.
The Director of Power focuses on managing the utility engagement and interconnection process required to secure power for large-scale data center campuses, including coordination of transmission infrastructure, substations, and utility service agreements. This role works closely with internal development, preconstruction, design oversight, and construction management teams to ensure that power infrastructure requirements are clearly defined, utility timelines are tracked, and electrical infrastructure is delivered in alignment with overall project schedules.
The ideal candidate has strong experience working with utilities and supporting large electrical loads such as data centers, industrial facilities, or other high-demand infrastructure.
Utility Coordination & Interconnection Management
- Lead coordination with utilities to support power delivery for data center development projects.
- Manage utility engagement related to service applications, load requests, and interconnection studies.
- Track and coordinate utility interconnection processes including feasibility studies, system impact studies, and infrastructure requirements.
- Monitor utility schedules and infrastructure milestones to ensure alignment with development and construction timelines.
- Serve as a primary point of contact between project teams and utilities.
Power Infrastructure Planning
- Coordinate with utilities and engineering consultants on transmission, substation, and distribution infrastructure required to support large electrical loads.
- Support planning and review of electrical infrastructure including:
- Utility substations
- Transmission interconnections
- Substation expansions
- Distribution service infrastructure
- Assist in identifying potential power delivery constraints or risks during project planning.
Project Delivery Support
- Participate in project teams to support delivery of power infrastructure across development, preconstruction, and design phases.
- Coordinate with electrical engineers and consultants to review system studies and infrastructure designs.
- Track power-related project deliverables and utility milestones.
- Support issue resolution when challenges arise related to power infrastructure or utility schedules.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with internal development, preconstruction, design oversight, and construction management teams to integrate power infrastructure requirements into project planning.
- Provide technical input during site selection and early project planning related to power availability and infrastructure considerations.
- Serve as an escalation point for power-related coordination challenges involving utilities or infrastructure providers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- 10–15 years of experience working with utilities, electrical infrastructure, or large-load interconnection projects.
- Experience supporting large power demand customers such as data centers, industrial facilities, or major infrastructure developments.
- Strong familiarity with utility processes, interconnection studies, and electrical infrastructure planning.
- Experience coordinating with utilities, engineers, and infrastructure providers on complex projects.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate across several stakeholders.
